PGLICE LEAGUE BASEBALL TEAM:
Mr. Oakee stated he had attended the Police Relief Association banquet eerlier in the
evening honoring the North Andover team for being first place league champions in the
C~eater Lawrence Police League. He said it is an honor to our town and the police
department. He wants to cmmaend the coaching of patro/man Arthur Mawson for the fine
Job he did for the boys of the town. Mr. Broadhea~ seconded the motion and the vote
w~s unanimous. A letter will be sent to the Police Department .
BLUE CROSS:
James Maker, Town Treasurer, appeared before the Board to state that there has been an
increase in rates for the Blue Cross, Blue Shield. The Board asked Mr. Maker w~at his
feelings were in the matter and Mr. Maker suggested going along with the increases
asked for. Nr~ 0akes mode a motion to have Mr. Maker renew the Blue(~oss contract.
Mr. Broadhead seconded the motion and the vste was unanimous.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. ~

The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on Friday, September ~, 196~
with all members present, Chairman Finneran presiding:
POLE LOCATIONS:
Two petitions to locate Joint poles on Dale Street and Great Pond Road were approved
by the Board.
LAWRENCE GAS CO.:
A petition to excavate for installation of a gas service on Marbleridge Road was'
approved by the Board.
PUBLIC HEARING:
A notice was received of a public hearing on Welfare Compensation would be held in'
Boston, September 8th, in the Gardner Auditorium, State House at 1:30 p.m. Director
of the Board of Welfare, Fred P. Oakes, would attend.
DPW: SALEM STREET:
A letter was received advising the Board of the sum of $20,000.00 for the improvemen~
of Salem Street was provided under Sec. 34, C. 90 of the General Laws on condition
that at least ~10,O00. will be contributed by the Town and $10,000. by the County.
MAINTENANCE OF CHAP. 90 ROADS:
A letter was also received advising that the sum of $1,000. was granted for mainten-
ence of North Andover roads on condition that at leas~ .$2,000. would be contributed
bythe
BUILDING CODES:
A letter from the Building Inspector requested that a committee be appointed by the
Board to formulate and establish proper codes and standards for all building construction
in the Town. This would aid in drawing up a set of applicable codes that could be
submitted at the next Town Meeting. The Board so agreed.
UN WEEE: October 19th
A letter from Governor Peabody requested that the Board arrange for choice of students
to attend reception in honor of International Students studying in the~U. S. to be
held on Friday, October 23, 1964.
RSDC:
A notice was received of the 61st meeting of the Regional School District Committee.
BOARD OF APPEALS:
Notices of hearings on petitions of Leonard J; Manning and Ruby Knapp for building
expansions.
