SUTTON STREET LIGHTING, ROUTE h95:
A letter from Mass. Electric Company advised the Board of the actual cos~ of ia-
proved street lighting on Satton Street, intersection of the new Route h95. The
new construction had progressed to the point that old pole lines and lights had
to be removed. The cost of the new lights would be $500. per year;but with the
credit of the old lights that were removed, an amount of $213. ,the actual cost of
the new improved installations would emount ~ only $287. per year. The Board
so approved and voted.
CONMENDATZON: PGLZCE DEPT.:
A letter from John. J. Shields, B~ilding Contractor, highly co,ended the North
Andovar Police Department, especially Officer Edward Manning, Sergeunt-Det~6tive
Russell B. Donnelly and Chief Lawlor for their alert police work in the matter of
the theft of building supplies from his Andover project.
COUNTY 0C~SSIONE~S:
A letter from the County Commissioners advised the Board that Dale Street work
and the funds thereof would be extended until 1966.
HOME RULE:
A letter from the Mass. Selectmen's Association related their effor~s to have '~ome
Rule" adopted. Selectman Raymond Broadhesd volunteered to act as spokesmand and
Chairman of the Home Rule effort w~ich he is vitally interested in. He remarked that
he hoped that some day in the near future the Town would be able ~o erect a "Stap
Sign" without an "Act of Congress".
BOAT LAUNCHING:
Mr. Duffy, Board of Public Works, replying to a request from the Board, stated that
he was unable to advise them as to the means of providing an area,from his stand-
point, for people of the Town of North Andovar to launch their boats. The B card
instructed that the Highway Dept. be advised to investigate the matter further.
Annual reports of the County Retirement Boad and T~easurer & County Commissioners
were received and filed.
CHURCH STREET:
Mr. A. Pinsud, Maple ff~'ee~, was requested by vote of the Board to make a new sign
for Church Street.
TRAFFIC SIGN COUNT:
Selectman Broadhead requested tha~ the police department make a traffic count at the
corner of Middlesex Street and Waverley Road to determine if it would be in the better
interssts of safety and traffic to move the "Stop" sign from Middlesex Street to
Waverley Road. He also requested that the Chief investigate the possible necessity
forof theinstallingcommunitya Center."Stop" sign at the Junction of Salem and Johnson Streets, vicinity
BUILDING CODE COMMITTEE:
At the specific request of Building Inspector, Charles Foster, a Building COde Com-
mittee was appointed by the Board. This Committee was appointed for the purpose of
restudying the present building codes, up-dating them and including much needed leg-
islation on swimming pools. The Committee appointed is as follows: Charles Fostmr,
John J. Shields, William J. Driscoll, Vincent A. Lznders, John J. Cyr, Jr. The
Board requested said committee to submit a report sometime before the close of the
War~ant.
CIVIL DEFENSE: TRUCE
John Farrell, Civil Defense Dlrector, reported to the Board that repairs on the truck
acquired f~mnthe School Department had been completed amd available to Town Departmats
when needed.
BOOSTER CLUB INVITATION:
The Board received a cordial invitation to attend the opening kick-off games of the
Youth league, Sanday, October 4. All said they would attend.
