The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with all members
present, Selectmen Fred P. Oakes, Raymond Broadhead and Chairman Finneran presiding.
HEARING:
At 7:30 p.m. a hearing was held on the petition of the Mass. Electric Company to in-
stall underground electrical cables for a building development on the northerly side
of.~reat Pond R?ad 4815 feet easterly from Essex Street. The petition was approved.
Nommce was recemved of street light installations on Wentworth Ave. and FosterS~.
JURORS:
Richard J. Lawlor, 12 Harkaway Rd., a weaver, was drawn for Jury duty in Superior
Court at Salem, Mass. on November 2, 1964. James J. Lyons, 4 Brightwood Avenue,
a clerk in a Food Chain Store was drawn for duty in Superior Court, Lawrence, Mass.,
on November 2, 1964.
INVITATION:
The Board of Trade in North Andover invited the Board to attent the Essex County
Board of Trade Meeting to be held at the Merrimack Valley Motor Inn, North Andover,
on Wednesday, October 14, at 12:00 noon. Selectman Fred B. Cakes will be able
· o accept.
HIGHWAY DEPT.:
A letter fram the Highway Dept. stated that funds are ~navailable to construct gate
in Lake Cochichewick fence on Pleasant Street for boat launching facilities.
Walter Stamp reported that the Arlington Tract Bank sidewalk would be repaired soon
and that a cement sidewalk would be installed to replac~e dangerous, damaged one.
NOTICE:
A notice was received from the Land Court in Boston re the petition of Donald B.
Stewart et ux for the registration of land in North Andover as par citation.
NOTICE:
From the Board of Appeals that a hearing would be heard on the petition of the North
Andover Land Conpany, Luc. requesting a variance in the zoning on Main Street, corner
of Waverley Rd. to permit building of a new retail store.
~NT DC~IN:
Notice was received from the CoUnty Commissioners office of a conference meeting
on eminent domain procedures to be held on Thursday, October 7, at the Commissioners
Office in Salem, Mass.,at 2:30 p.m.
D. ~L~NDLER, SCHOOL SUP'T.:
Mr. Chandler sent a letter advising the Board that a survey, in the form of a- letter,
will be sent to residents of the Town asking their assistance in offering any of
their special talents or knowledge on various subjects that would interest school
children. He asked the support and endorsement of this project of the Board.
LA~RENCE GAS C0.:
A petition was received announcing the emergency excavation to repair agas mainI on
44 Pleasant Street. The Board approved.
LONGWORTH: D.P.W. PRO~ECTS.
Representative Longworth appeared before the Board to advise them that the traffic
lights on the corner of G3ickaring Road and Nain Street and the sidewalks on Mass.
Avenue, vicinity of the new elementary school, would be installed beginning next
week, waathar being favorable. The Board voted to send a letter of appreciation
to D.P.W. Commissioner Fitzgerald and his staff and to Representative Langworth for
his personal efforts in behalf of the proJect~.
A letter to the Board advised them of a series of seminars on internal revenue returns.
SELECTMENtS MEETING NOTICE:
The Board voted to have a Selectmen's meeting on Friday, October 9, at 4200 p.m. due
to their regular meeting date, Monday, October 12, falling on s holiday, Columbus Day.
Town building will be closed all day.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
