Fiune'ran and Chairman Raymond Broadhead present. BLUE CROSS-BLUE SHIELD: After meeting of the town employees and the Advisory Board, the Board of Selectmen author- izod Town Treasurer to enter the employees in the new program. MERRIMACK ~VER POLLUTION MEETING: The Board of ~ealth, ~ublic Works and a representative from the State met with the Board to discuss the pollution program the state proposed each town and city to adopt. The Town can either have ant~dividual program or go:in with other towns and cities. The cost to the Town would be close to 2 million dollars; S0 thousand dollars annually would have to be paid .in interest on the bonds..necessary; plus thousands of dollars fc~ annual maintenance .. ,, .xpens s".,e~ e on proposed~. ~f. ~q'; t .t~on. plamt. ~,,.Dr..Kay asked the representative of the state conmi' /tee if, after all this expense, the Merrimack River water .would b? avail, ab~le f,o.r . .~4'ing~. purposes, The Representative replied, '~1o, water could not ever oe use~ m'or orzu~zng, only boating end swimming would be safe after the pollution program was in effect." Chairman Broadhead .announced that the function of the Board ~f Selectmen was ~o carry out the~ wishes and programs that the townspeople voted affirmatively on at the' annual ing in Narch. He stated that an Article would be prepared on this proposed program 'for the Town Meeting in. March to enable the citizens of N0r~h"Andover to vote, yes or no, whether they~wamted it. Until such time in March,, Mr. Broadheed concluded, the' Board ha~ no iza~ien to proceed with any program relative to this matter.. . ' '~ R0~TE "49~ BRIDGE LIGHTING: A Letter from the Mass. Electric Company advised the Board said that they. have 'yet to re- ceive permission' from:theState to install' ~equested lights.
