SALES TAX:
A letter on the recent sales tax was received from the Mayor of A~leboro and tabled for
further study.
PUBLIC UTILITIES' HEARING.~
A notice of hearing on alleged unfair practices of the New England Tel. & Tel. Co. on
August 10-1~ was received and tabled.
~ OF JULY C0~ITTEE REPORT:
Chairman Henry Green submitted the committee's repor~ on receipts and expenses of the
annual 4th of July ~obs~evance. The report was received as submitted and Chairman 0ekes
recommended that the committee be san~ a letter of appreciation and thanks for the fine
Job they did.
N. A. BOARD OF TRADE: ~ · - '
A letter from the North Andover Board of Trade expressed their pleasure that shade trees
would be ~lanted on Main Street and offered any kind of help thei~ organization could
give to improve and maintain the beauty of the town.

Contingent Fund up to the a~ount of $2,000. Mr. Nicetta advised the Board that it would
save the town money by its ability to make their own signs...this would take in all
sign needs...police, public works, building inspector and Highway signs.
MEETING WIT~ D.P.W. coNMISSIONER:
The Board requested their Secretary to contact Commissioner Ribbs, State Rouse, to set~
up a meeting with their Board, Chief Lawlor, Highway Surveyor to discuss matters and
-problems of the town that have been pending for some time. ~The representatives and '~
Governor's Councilman, T. Lane will also be invited to attend. The tentative date set
· for the meeting is August 11, pending verification from the Commissioners' office.

Augustine Lonergan, 34 Stonington Street, a letter carrier, was drawn for Jury;Duty. in
~Salem Court, September 12th sitting.
!.BOARD OF FIRE ~NGINE~2S:
~chief Daw .and Calvin Snell met with the Board to discuss what could be done about .thei
:loudness of the Fire Horn. Many complaints have been received from residents of the ?
~.own. Chief Daw stated he had tried a few measures without any results. He stated that
all call men can be put on '¥eceivers",' the horn could not be' eliminated.
~. FIRE CONPANY CARNIVAL:
The Board were invited to participate in the Labor Day parade and the annual Fire Companyts
~ Carnival. They requested the Board to issue a proclamation onthe festivities~
POLE LOCATIO~: /
The N.A. Fire Dept. requested permission for a pole location on S~evens Street' needed to run
a fire line alarm cable up Stevens St. to Salem St. Abutters will be notified of a hearing
on ~said petition to 'be held August 29, at 7:30 p.m.
POLE LOCATIG~ PETITIONS:
Four Joint pole petitions were apple?ed by the Board on Carry Circle and Davis% St.extension;
Grat Pond Rd.; WoodstoCk Rd.: and Prescott Street.
STREET LIGHTS:
Notice receive~d of street lig~ installations on Lisa Lane and Bradford Street.
BOXFORD ST.- CEAPTER 90 REQUEST:
A Memorandu~ of Agreement was signed by the Board re Boxford St. and the state requested a
list of the Chapter 90 needs for 1967.
NOTICE:
Reassignment notice re Chapter 90 Funds for improvement ~of Salem St. from DPt.
THOMAS J. LANE:
Mr. Lane sent letter saying he would be present at DPW meeting with Selectmen as requested.
TREE pLANTING:
Joseph Durso advised the Board by letter that he would be very glad to cooperate on the above-
