HomeMy WebLinkAbout1967-02-20 Board of Selectmen MinutesFebruary 2~, 1967 (continued) POLLUTIG~ MEETING REPC~T: John Monteri~, Chairman of Water pollution Committee, ~reported to the Board that he had attended meeting, February 17, 1967, at the State House, and stated that all Greater La~rence were represented. He reported that their would bean important meeting in March to reclassify the pollution abatement of rivers; that the N. A. pollution Committee would meet before this open meeting. He also stated that the Board of Selectman and the planning Board must accept the urban waterwell fund report. Mr. Mantario thanked C.D. Director, Mr. Farrell for use of his meeting room for the Comm~mity you2h Committee. G~IEF LAWLOR: Chief Lawlor ~ submitted an affirmative recommendation on application of Robert Goldberg for the position of Civil .Constable for Greater Lawrence. The Board requested thelr~Secretsry to ascertain the procedure on thismatter as carried on in Andover and Methurnm THANK YOU LETTER: Chairman Fred P. Oakes was receipiant of a letter of thanks from Western Electric for the time he expended attending their meeting announcing the installation of a pollution plant at Western Electric. POLE P~OVAIS: · - · Petitions were approved to remove poles on parr, Greene, Middlesex, Beachwoed, Beverly Streets and Massachusetts Avenue, hearings not necessary. STOP SIGI - JC~NS~ ST. AT GREAT PGIE R~D:~ The necessary data for installation of aL stop sign at the above-named location were rece~ed ~ and will be sent to the traffic division of the DPW for processing. . , .' -. · BOARD C~ APPEALS: The Board of Appeals sent notices of three hearings and also requested that the Associate Members be appointed ~or the same length of service ~as the.regular members.' ~The BoardYdir- ected that the request be sent to TOWn counsel for legality of request~ to report oa~same~ G~ARLES CONSTRUCTIC~ CO.: The Board was in receipt of a copy of letter from Building ~uspector to Charles. C~.truction Co. regarding the boarding up of an old building on Riverview Street. There are presently 4 other articles ~ the warrant. The' warrant' was' closed at 8:10 P.M; ~ICKER~G RD. SID~KS: Mr. peter Garofoli, Secretary to the School Committee, met x~ith the Board to discuss the above- named matter. He was advised by the Board that the DPW had been contacted and that sidewalks, as proposed, would be installed as soon as funds were made available. .Mr. Garofoli said the Committee had also requested a School Crossing Guard at Mass. Ave. and Chi6kertng Rd. but had bean advised by the Police Dept. that thi~ would not be possible at this time. S~00L BUILDING PE~TS: ~ letter from Arnold Salisbury, Town Counsel, advised the Board that the town,in-the matter of building permits, should comply with its ordinances. The School Building Committee had stated that they should be exempt when erecting school buildings. Mr. Salisbury said they would have to comply.
