Commission on Aging. Mr. Sutcliffe referred to and questioned the newspaper report and alleged that ~helforme~icouncil could not get to first base with the Board of Selectmen and the Advisory Board. Chairman Fiuneran read the board's record of the minutes of the meeting with Mr. Morris and pointed cut that the. board's position on the matter was clear and concise. Mr. Sutcl~ffe co~manted that the minutes were brief. Mr.,0akes asked publtc We]_fare Director George Wilson~ former chairman of the dissolvedeeunctl, if there had been any indication of, lack:of. interest on the part of the Selectmen in the program for the aged. Mr. Wilson- stated that he was not aware of any lack of interest on the part of the board members or council members, aud that resignations of coancil members was due. to lack of response ~rom %he. elderly people and lack of mouey withwhtch to,set up a program. Mr. Sutcliffe suggested former members of the council should be invited to meet WithMr. Morris,and Mr.'Wilson to determine the need of re- establishing a Council jfer the aging. Mr. 0akes stated that the Selectmen are interested in the program, and that~ ,as, prevtouslydecided, a meeting will take place between Mr. Morris and Mr. Wilson to determine the need for re-establishing the program, and the,results of;the meeting will be'reported to the Board of Selectmen byMr. Wilson. Mr. Sutcliffe was assured that Mr. Wilson would get in touch with him as to the time of meeting. SN~AGE PROPOSAL -Mr. Steinberg Mr. Steinberg of Osgood Street appeared before the board to propose a i$2~,000~ contribution toward a .seWerage extension on Osgond Street. He added that~he. was in the process of building an apartment building in the area~and was wtlling to pay one-third of the cost of the sewerage project. The board stated his proposal would be madea matter of record end suggested Mr. Steinberg. present his proposal to Er. D~ffY, SUperintendent of publlcWorks. HIGHWAY SURVETGR--Mass. Ave. Mr. NlC~ta_~e~e~ot~E~. Berkover's letter concerning the use of concreteu pipes for cross dxmins under the surface of Mass. Ave., and stated that resurfacing operations had started, but asyet the agreed-to drains had not.beeninstalled~ Mr. Oakes suggested theboard support Mr. Ntcetta in this matter, chairman..~ Finneran stated that he would call the Mass. D.P.W. and arrange an inspectiofl~ meeting ~far this week at which board members, Mr~ Nicetta and Tree Warden!Mr. Lafoud would be present. Mr. Nicetta also referred to the~ualtty of gravel being used which, in his opinion, is inferior material. The board agreed · that the street would not be accepted bytheTo~nuntilthe'agreed-to re~uire~ ments are fulfilled. JUROR DRAGON - Helen Endelos Town Clerk John J. Lyons appeared before the board with the box of names of prospective; jurors for ithe drawing of one juror to serve; at Superior COurt in Salem on 'September 11, 1967. Selectmen Oskes drew the name HeIen Endelos of.'( .~ 53. Chadwick Street, a bench hand. The board noted a change of time for appearance at court from 10:00 A.M. to 8:30 A.M. ? (2) To excavate on ~pland Rd. to install gas service for J. Chapman. (3) To excavate in street on chadwick St. to install a 6" gas main to ' provide Surrey Drtvewith gas. W. - Traffic signals Wilsons Corner, Stop sign Marbleridge & Salem St. chairman Finneran read letter from Mr. Berkover, District Highway Engiheer, tel. board request for a return of the green-arrew signal light at Wilsons Corner and a stop sign installation survey at Marbleridg~ Rd. and Salem Street. Mr. Berkover advised that installation of a green arro~ at the intersection was improper as the turnoff takes plac~e prior to entrance to the intersection, and that a study is being made for the possible installation of s ,,l~leld. sign at the turnoff. ~r. Berkover requested that a 40-scale drawing and traffic count of the inter- section of Marbleridge Rd. and salem Street be forwarded to his office for consideration of a Stop sign installation. C/~APTER 90 - Salem Street Department bf Public Works approval and recommendation of payment of $2,864.26 to George Brox Inc'. for work performed on Salem' street to July 15, 1967, was referred to the Highway Surveyor for approval of paint. STO~ DRAYAGE REPORT - Camp Dresser & McKee chairman Flnneran read a letter from Camp, Dresser & McKee rel. to question of billing for printing of drainage report and maps. Upon motion of Mr. Finck seconded by ~r. Oakes, it was unanimously ~edtto refer the letter and ,-opies of Printing bill in connection ~rith the storm drainage report to the Highway Surveyor for consideration andJappropriate action. C~0SSING GUARD RESI~ATI~ - Mrs. Mary Winward The board accepted with regret the resignation of Mrs. Mary S. Winward as a Crossing Guard and directed a letter to Mrs. Winward accepting her resignation and stating appreciation for her many years of dedicated service at the difficult intersection of Herrick Rd., Waverly Rd. and Mass. LABOR & INDUSTRIES - New Police Station A list of Job classifications and minimum wage rates that will apply to laborers and certain employees in connection with Public Works ProJ ec~ - New Police station was submitted by the Mass. Dept. of Labor & Zndusti~es. ~he-board directed that the list and cover letter be for~ardad to Mr. Horace H. James, Architect for the firm of Thomas J. Pearson Associates. Also forwarded to- Mr. James for appropriate action is a statement from Joseph J. Flynn for work performed at the site of the new police station. STOP SIM P~UEST - Marbleridge ~. and salem Street Chairmsn Finneram read a letter from Mr. John A. McClellan suggesting a stop sign he installed at the intersection of Merbleridge Rd. and Salem St~ and a speed' warning sign at Appleton St; The board directed that Mr. McClellan be advised ~hat a survey for said stop sign is already in progress, and that a solid yellow line was painted at the corner of Appleton Street as a guide to drivers at this location.
