Ave. Upon motion of Mr. Oakes seconded by Mr. Finck a.hearing date of Sept..11, 1967, 7:45 P.M., was set on petition of Massachusetts Electric. CO. to locate 5 poles on Sutton Street. A petition for e joint pole location on Mass. Ave. was unanimously granted. LAWR~NCEGAS CO. -- EXCAVATIONS . Upon motion of Mr. Finck seconded by Mr. Cakes the following gas company requests to excavate in streets were unanimously approved: 1. Repair of gas main at Waverlyand Saltonstall Roads. 2. I~stall gas service for Mr. Jolly on Osgood Street. LAWR~NCEGAS CO. - EASeMeNTS A letter from the Lawrence Gas Co. requesting easements along a portion of ~ SalemSt. be retained was referred to Atty. ~harlesW. Trembly for appropriate action. ... STREETLIGHTING - Elderly Housing Upon motion of Mr. Finck seconded by Mr. Oakes the board voted unaninouslyto adopt the Mass. Electric Co. 2e6ommendation for installation of three 3500 · ~'~ lumen mercury vapor lights at First Streetend Map!e'Ave. ... G~APTER 90 MAINTenANCE - Boxford Street The Mass. Dep't Public Works submitted a 'contract to the board for Chapter.90 maintenance work on Boxford Street. The contract was referred to ~the Highway Surveyor' to determine whether or not the work as performed met the terms of the contract. (HAPTER 90 - Salem street -- Dept. of public Works certifications of work performed on Salem Street and recommendations of payment of .$6,715.14 and $13,708.57 for work to July 29,~ 1967, was referred to the Highway Surveyor for approval and payment. STO~ DRAINAGE FACILITIES .. A letter from the Dep 't of Housing and Urban Development advised the board that s check from the U.S. Treasury Dep 't for payment of work performed under Project No. P Mass. 3343, Storm Drainage Facilities would arrive shor.tly.: The board acknowledge receipt of a check for $19,000 on this date tamed, over to the Town Treasurer. SALE~ TAX F~M~BURS]I~NTS - Supt. of 'Schools - Chairman ~-eran read letter from Mr. Garofoli, Supt. of Schools, advising. the board of s meeting with. Mr. Taro, Auditor., Mass. Dep 't of Education, on Augus~ 29, 1967, 10:00 p. M. to discuss methods of computating Sales Ta~ . . reimbursements under Chapter 70. The board stated its intention to attend. GROGAN's FIELD BLEATERS.- Bldg. Inspector chairman Fiuneran read letter from Bldg. Inspector, charles Foster, advising ·. the board that he had written to Mr. Duf/~y, Supt. of public Works in May, 1967~ on the unsafe condition of certain bleachers at Grogans Field. Mr. Foster informed the board that he and Mr. Duffy had ~agree. to the removal of the bleachers immediately following the baseball season. The board agreed to await Mr. Duff~'s reply' to their letter before taking further action. NATIC~AL CABLEVISION - Atty. Carouse A letter from Atty. Cam=so invited the board to a meeting on August 29, 1967, 7:30 P.M., at which National Cablevision, Inc. would demonstrate cable television. Mr. Finck agreed to attend the meeting. Cz¥~L SERVICE APPOINTMENT - Reserve patrolmen Upon motion of Mr. FLuck seconded by Mr. Gakes the board unanimously appointed Mr. Walter E. LegaSse, Lincoln St., a Reserve patrolman in the policeDept.~i APPOINTM]NTS - Crossing Guards Upon recommendation of Chief Lawlor and motion of Mr. Finck seconded by Mr. Oakes, the following appointments to the position of Crossing Guard were unanimously approved. 1. Mrs. NencyStevenson - Spare Crossing Guard 2. Mrs. Alice LoveJoy - Spare Crossing Guard 3. Mrs. Grace Farrow - Crossing Guard 4. Mrs. Barbara Driscoll - Spare Crossing Guard August 28, 1967 (cont.) APPOINTMenT - Spare Worker, Precinct ii Upon motion of Mr. Oakes, seconded by Mr. Finck, Mrs. Alice cavallaro, 70 Maple Ave., was unanimously appointed a Spare Worker in Precinct II. COMPLAINT - Town Yard A complaint by Mrs. Semis, 74 Saunders St., of unsatisfactory conditions in the Town yard was referred to department heads for appropriate action. STREET LIGHT SURVET - Harwood Street Mr. Finck requested s survey for improved street lighting along Harwood St. 'be conducted by the Electric Company for recommendation. MEETING ADJOUrnED - Upon motion of Mr. Oakes seconded by Atty. Finck it was unanimously voted %o adjourn this meeting at 9:30 P.M. SEPTemBER Il, 1967 The Board of Selectmen held a scheduled meeting on this date. Members Mr~ William Finneron'~! Mr.~ Ralph Finck and Mr. Fred Oakes were present, chairman Finneran opened .the ~m'eeting at ?:31 P.M. HEARING - pole location for Marblehead Street. Mr. J.A.Casey, N.E. Telephone Cd - representative informed 'the Board that his company wished to withdraw its petition for a Role .at this time.-- Reques%.to withdraw was granted. HEAPING z P°le location-on South?Side of Sutton Street,~ five peles~Mr.:Melvin Kirkman, Manager of Lawrence Airport, appeared before the board and stated'that1 he Would like very much to see these wires installed underground._ A representative of the electric company stated that the poles would not be over 29 feet off.the ground .and .would be lower than the houses in the development that they ware to service~across the street. He said they would be'in front onan unused runway. · Mr.. Xirk~an admttted~that .the runway in question was.now phased ou~, but in the ~even~ of an.emergency it might possibly be used and' the'existence of poles would definitely present a safety hazard. Nr. Oakes questioned Mr. Kirkman further about safety,precautions. Mr. Finck stated that in view of Mr~ Kirkman's · remarks .about'i safetI hazards, and in. all fairness to both' the' developer and the Airport' commission, it seemed that further discussion was~called for. Mr.,, K~.rkman further~stated thatlall other~wires of. the gas and-telephone and. fire company' wemamde~grousd and that is where he would like to see the electric company wires. Both iparties agreed to further discussion and Chairman Fiuneran made a motion,. seconded by Mr. Finck that this petition be tabled for one week and another · hearing was set for september l§th at 7:30 P.M. HEA~NG- petition to locate four poles on Forest' Street was granted unanimousl~ - tb the telephone and electric companies by the Board. PETITION - The, petition for relocating one~ Jointly owned pole on Massachusetts ~Avenue was unanimously granted by the Board. PETITION- pole Location, Rosedale Avenue Upon motion of Mr. Oakes, seconded by Mr. Finck, a hearing was set for Sept. 25; 1967 'at' 7.35 P.M. on the petition-for placing one Jointly owned pole and removing mwo'.Jointly owned poles on Rosedale Avenue. PETITION - Excavation on Sutton Street ~The;Board unanimously granted permission to the Lawrence ~aS Company ~o excavate on Sutton Street at Lot 1~ and Lot~ 16 for 1½" gas lines.
