The Board of Selectmen held their regular meeting on this da~e ~..th the two-Board members
present, Selectman William A. Finneran and {chairman Arthur p. Kirk presiding. ~e warrant
was approved as submitted.
GAS EXCAVATI~:
A petition was approved by the Board to ezcavate for a gas service on Lincoln Street.
UN ACTIVITIES:
Co-Chsirman Mrs. Elliot and Mrs..Plant requested permission mo erect a tent bet~se~
the Andover Savings Bank and the Town Building for U N Activities. Permission was
granted providing they get permission from the Police Chief end ~ndover Savings Bank.
BOARD ~ TRADE. REQUEST:
A l~etter from the Board of Trede requested that the town street sweeper be used on Main Street
to 'keep it clean. The letter was referred to the Highway Surveyor.
CAPITAL OUT-LAY COmmITTEE:
A memo received from the Capital Out-Lay Committee requested the Board ~o send any questions
or projects to the Eommittee for stud~j- The Board voted to receive same, for their perusal.
Chairman Kirk stated that capital Out-Lay was doing a fine Job for the mown and ~as a very
VOC S~00L: important end useful Committee for the town.
A letter' from Sup't. James Booth, confirmed the October lhth meeting with the Selectmen in
conjunction with a proposed addition to the school.
TOWN~ COUNsEL:~
Town.Counsel, Arnold H. Salisbury, EsQ., sent copies of letters sent to Atty. Brownell,
on articles for bus amd'.-tra~ service. .
,PERSCSNEL BOARD:
A reminder was received fromthe ~ersonnel Board re petitions for porposed amecdm~nts 't~

A.mamo from the Department of the Army advised the Board of pzopcsed radar site at Sharpener"
Pond;
SPEED COMPLAINTS:
Two complaints ,of speeding were received by the Board. David Bevins complained of excessive'
speed. 9n Forest Street and Mrs. Dunn complained about fast drivers .using Ingalls Road.. The
Board voted to refer the comDlaints to Chief Lawlor; - to have him contact the above-named
~parties.;~and-report back. to the .Board.
Chairman Xirk made almotion, which was seconded by Nr. Fin~eran, to check with Town Counsel

STREET<LIGHT: · .
A request~was received to have a street light replaced in the vicinity of 2~~ Lincoln-S~.at.
Mr.;~Middlemiss residence. Later the. electric company reported that' the fixture was out of
o~der and they:would replace street light as soon~'as they could fix it.
¢;D.'.[DIRECTOR:
John'.~Farrell '.appeared before the Board ~o announce he would be going to Taunton, Nass. to
look .Over used equipment on October 10 and would be glad to have any other deparmmen~ heads
to.,go'with'him who so wished.
BUS TRANSPoRTATI~ NEET~G:
At a'bus'traUsportatton: meeting in the Lawrence City Council chambers, Frank Trombly d/b/a
for Trombly Motor Coach Service, was selected to have the contract for bus services of the
four ?CO,unities. Ghairman Kirk made a motion to issue a license to Mr. Trombly for N. A. '
bus s~ervi'c~s Whi'ch- was seconded by Mr. Finneran. A motion was a. lso made to rescind license
previously awarded to Michaud ~ Lines, Inc. who was mot able to carry curl his 'contract ,be-~
cause of union interference. A letter of introduction to the Boston Transportation Board
was voted to .be written end given to Mr. Trambl~ for his future hearing for a license to
carry :out,: contract, to service 4 .coz~u~ities~-

Memo"will ~e issued to all Town Employees that the Columbus. Day Holiday falls on a Saturday .
thereby, according to Section 16, P. G. of the Personnel By_-Laws, employees will have Frtday~
October llth off.
