The Board of Selectmen held a meeting at 1:00 P.M. with members Pinneran and
Kirk present. Mr. Willis is still hospitalized. Weekly bills and payrolls were
approved.
DRIVE-IN THEATRE:
A letter w~s received from Mr. & Mrs. J. Edmund Elliot, 50 .~olland Road,
o~bJecting to the Drive -in theatre in North Andover. ~he board accepted the
letter and it will be filed with other material pertaining to this matter.
REVOLVER PERMIT APPLICATIONS:
The Board approved the applications of Philip T. Miller, 242 Dale Street,
andLeo J. Galeazzi, 44 Sawyer Road, for .licenses to carry a revolver. Both
men are Reserve. Police Officers.
LAWRENCE G~S COMPANY:
The Board approved the request of this company for permission to excavate to
install gas service on Woodbridge Road, 13 feet on street; to excavate 392
feet on Woodbridge Road and 33 feet on Greene Street to install new gas main~
to excavate about 100 feet on Greene Street to renew gas main. Mr.. Carry ~o
be notified of this permission.
. SECRETARY OF THE C0~ONNEALTH~
Notice receiyed that a~ application for a certificate of incorporation, as
provided in Chapter 180 of the G.L. Tmr~Ed. under the name of The School ~
Nurses Association of Mass. was received by the board.. ~ purpose of this
association is to cooperate with the Mass. State Nurses Asso. and similar
organizations, and to improve,further,promote and protect the e6onomic and
general welfare of its members. To foster legislation of benefit to the
members of the school nursing profession, ~o be located in Boston. Agnes
· McOlung, 24 Third Street is one of a number who filed the application. -
The Board referred the mat~er to the Police Chief for investigation and
statements of facts. Upon receipt of same, the board approves the form to
be returned to the Office of the Secretary.
MEMORANDUM CONCERNING GYPSY MOTH ERADICATION STATdTE:
Notice rec.eived that the selectmen ~f any town may elect :o postpone the
initial payment required by this act until 1955 and make payment in ~three
equal annual installments upon notice in writing ~o the state tax commissioner
of such election.
The Board took no action on this mumorandum since the money has been appropriated
for this work.
DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION DIV. OF FORESTRY.
A-letter was received from'the Department cf Conservation, Div. of Forestry
together with a copy of a new law relative to the appointment of Forest Wardens
in cities and .towns. Under this law a forest warden.,mm~st be appointed in june
except ~owns which have accepted the provisions of Sec. 42 and 43 of Chapter 48
G.L. Taese appointments are no longer subject to approval of the above office
but the to~n must still notify this office as to the name and address of. the
person appointed to the post of Forest ¥~arden.
No action taken since the town has accepted Sec; 42 and 43 of Chapter 48.~
SPECIAL TOWN MEETING:
The Board of Selectmen called a special ~own meeting to be held on July 15, 1954
at 8:00 P.M. at the town ~.The warran~ was opened at 2~IP.M. and closed at
2:05 P.M. The board voted~to insert~ five articles in the warrant:
Articles 1, 2 and 3 are petitioned by.the Board of Pablic Works.. Article 1 is
see .if the to~n will accept the sum of $300,000 to be used by the town and applied
toward the costs of additions in connection with extensions to thew ater supply
system: new pumping station, new standpipe and ne~ and larger water main~ the
money to come from the Western Electric
· Article 2, to see if the town will raise and appropriate or transfer fromavailable
funds the sum of $5,000 to enable the. Board of Public Works to loca~e and develop
a new and additional source of wa~er supply.
Art. 3. To see if the town will raise and appropriate the sum of $45,000. for the
purpose of lining the various water mains with linings of not less than 1/16 of an
inch ·
Article 4. ~ see if the town will transfer $200.16 from the insurance receipts
to the Refuse Disposal expense account. Pet. of Highway Surveyor.
Article. ~. To see if the town will raise an appropriate sum of money to ex~end the
sewer on Moody Street. Pet. of Davis B. McKee and Frank Grande~ and others.
JURORS APPOINTED FOR ENSUING YEAR, July 1, 1954 to Jane 30, 1955.
~he Board approved the Jury list and added %welve additional names ~o replace those
drawn during the year and others deceased or who have moved out of town.
