july 5, 1954. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.
IAWRENCE ELECTRIC CO: HEARING:
A hearing vms. held on thepetition of this compar~ for permission to locate two
poles on the westerly and easterly sides of Berry Street, at points approximately
710 feet and 846 feet southerly from Ash Street, 2 poles. Abutters were .notified
and there was no' opposition. Mr. Barry was present and stated that this is for new
service for Mr. Michaud. The Board voted unanimously to grant this permission.
HFARING ON RE,VAt OF T~:
A 'hearing was held on ihs petition of John Oalzetta for the removal of' three trees
on Johnson Street. Mr. Connors had stated that these trees should be removed as
Mr. Calzetta is building a new house ar.d they definitely interfere with the drive-
way. The board voted unanimously to .request. the tree warden to remove the. three
trees.
DONATION TO TOWN:
Mrs. Ruth Myhaver, former proprie~o= of a nursing home has donated a hospitsl bed,
wheelchair, bedside table and' two pair.of crutches to the town.-The Board voted
,,-muimously to send a letter of thanks to Mrs. M~haver. It is understood that these
items are to be used at the descretion of the fire chief. ~
REMOVAD OF LOAM: '"
Mrs. Lillian Pedlar of 296 Sutton Stree~ complained abouttoam which has been
removed from property in the rear of her home. She said that when it rains it makes
a very bad condition there and asked if the town could do something 'about it.
The ·Board voted to again take this ~up with Martin Lawlor., Buil~t~ inspector and
request that he s end us a reply in writing ~for our files. This matter~ had been
brongh% before the board and ~he chairman had discussed it will Martin Lawlor but
we 'do not know what the outcome was. A letter w~]l be sent tc Mr. Lawlor.

Board voted unanimously to 'grant these .licenses~ for protection.
I~ECREAT~ON COUN~Vr-: .....
Tee'board received a letter from the' council relative to a bill for' the removal
of granite slabs by Phi~tp DiGloria in the amount of $14.50. On Thursday, June 24,
the council voted that this was no~ a b~-of.the Recreational. Council by a vote
of o~e~in favor and six were' not in favor 'of paying the bill. The Board voted
unanimously to pay this bill from the Contingent Fund as they felt that this was
worthy of paym~t even though the ~ecreational Council did not go 'along with them.
A letter will be sent to the Council' to this effect.
'TRANSFER F~0M-RESERVE FUND: .... ' ' ·
Approvalwasreceived from the Advisory Board-for the transfer o~$227.00 to the
Forest Fire Appropriation towards the purchase of a new pump, the balance to be
taken from the regular appropriation.

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:30 P.M.
with ,t~ members present. Mr. Willis is still unable to attend the meetings.
TR~EREMOVAL -HEARING~ :' - -
A hearing was held on the petition of John Hanson, 415 Nain Street~ :'for the
removal of a %res in front o£ his property.' ~he tree i2 alldecayed and according
to Tree '~arden John J, Connors, it creates a hazard and should be removed.
The Board voted unanimously to request the tree warden to remove the ~tree.
LEO MURPHY:
Leo Murphy came before the board and discussed the property known-as the ,,Town
Forest" owned by the %own. He said that the law states that the Selectmen may
appoint a town forest committee or a forester and that this land could be deve~,oped
and .made. into a .~ecreational Cen~er.
Mr. Kirk said ~this has been in the minds of the Selectmen for some time although
nothing definite has been done about it. He said %hat Mr. Connors is in charge of
the town forest and is very .interested in it.
Mr. Murphy then said thathhehhad the Bradford Street area in mind and he felt that
something should be done' about it. - -
He also informed the board that there is a sign post near the Middleton line that
is about 1000 feet away from the proper location and that this-should be corrected.
