HURRICANE R~!EF BOARD:
A memorandum was received relative to interpretation of Clause Al, Personal
services and for filing of claims for the Hurricanes of August 31 and September 11,
1954. Also rates for a tree climber and information on check list for hurricane
auditing.
LAM~RL~CE GAS COMPANy:
Permission to excavate 253' on Linden Avenue and 127' in street on Woodstock Street
to install gas main was granted by unani~.~ous rate of the board.
Permission ~o excavate ~o install four gas services- 80 feet on Linden Avenue and 13
feet on Woodstock Street was approved by unanimous ?ore of the board.
Permission to excavate to install gas s~rvice for Frank Slipp, Pleasant St. (50 feet
in street) was approved by the board.
Mr. Carry will be no~ified of t~is excavation.
OFFICE OF THE SECRETARY:
Notice received that an application for a certificate of incorporation as provided
in chapter 180 of the general laws and that Albert Detora, 111 Pembrook Road, ('and
others no~ residents of North Andover)is one of the application, to be known as the
Sessa Club, Inc. and the location is in Lawrence.
The board voted unanimously ~o refer this to the Police Chief fo~ inves~i'gation.
DEPART~ENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES:
Petition received from this company for the exemption from the operation of the
zoning ordinances in Sale~, Peabody, end Haverhill and the zoning by-la~s of Danvers,
Middleton, North Reading, North Andover and Boxford of portion of strip of land
in said cities and to~ns, together with ~ransmission line and line for telephone and
signal purposes ~o be constructed thereon.
' No action taken bythe board.
POLICE DEPAR %~NT:
Report received from Chief McKee relative to speeding on ~ater Street. ~he report
states that officers have chocked the speeding on l~ater Street during tbs day and
the early night shift and several drivers were stopped and warned against speeding.
The chief recom~nded that signs be posted on ~ater Street, "25 miles per hour',.
Tee board accepted the repor~ and recommendation a~:d added a suggestion that signs
"Children-Go Slow" be posted on ~Vater Street between Clarendon and Elm Streets.
The board voted unanimously to notify the chief of this vote.
INSURANCE:
.A letter was received from .Richard G. ~ipple of the North Andover Insurance
Agents Association relative to extended coverage endorsement to the fire insurance
covering ~own property. The totsl ins~rance is now $2,260,010 and if ex~ended cover-
age is added the premium will be $1421.85 for :ne first year and $956.75 for each
year thereafter. The board voted unanimously ~o hold this letter in abeyance, and
perhaps an article can be inserted in the warrant for the annu~ulltown meeting in
~arch, 1955.
BE. VOLVER P~IT APPLICATION:
An application for a license to carry a revolver was received from ~eremiah'J~seph
Lynch, Jr. 21 FurberAve. North Andover. The chief did not approve it as.he did no~
know this boy. The board voted to reques~ Mr. Lynch to get a recommendation from the
chief of police in Lawrence before any action can be tak. en by this board.
CIVIL DEF?~SE DIRECTOR:
An oral resignation was received from S. Forbes Rockwell, through Mr. Arthur p.
Kirk as Civil Defense Director of the town. The board voted unanimously ~o accept
the resignation with an appropriate commendation to be sen~ to ~. Rockwell
for his services rendered ~o the ~o~ over a period of y~ars.
Mm. Willis made a motion that the vacancy be filled by Dewey Dyer for the remainder
of the term which expires in March, 1955. Vote v~as unanimous.
