Rappaport, Chairmen of the ~ater Safety of the Red Cross advising that the request for life preservers is not a Red Cross responsibility but informing the board where they could be purchased. A note from Miss Annette A. Bernardin stated that she had a conference with Rev. C. W. Carvell about this matter and he suggested that the Eclectic Club might meet this need through their Children's ~elfare Fund. The board voted unanimously to refer this matter to the Eclectic Club for their consideration. SULLIVAN & WORCESTER: A letter was received from John N. Worcester informing the board that an error had been made in the previous s~atement submitted to the Selectmen and he enclosed a bill f or $157.50 for services rendered re: the culvert under Stevens Street. The board voted to paythis bill from the Contingent Fund. Henry Green,s bill: Mr. Willis suggested that the ~o~n pay one half of Mr. Green,s bill and that the M. T. Stevens Company will pay the other half, but possibly not at this time. The Board voted unanimously to instruct Mr. Catty ko pay one half of this bill or $212.50 to Henry Green, 42 E. Water. Street, for work done on the culvert under Stevens Street. ~ NE~ ENGLAND TEL. & TEL. CO: LAV~RENCE ELECTRIC CO: A petition for permission ~o locate poles and wires on Osgood Street was received by the board and set do~'m for a hearing on February 28, 1955 at 7:30 P.M. DEPT. OF PU~LIC%?ORKS- DIV. OF WATER~AYS: Notice received of a hearing to be held on March 7, 1955 at 100 Nashua Street, Boston re the petitions for improvement, development, maintenance and protection of tidal and non-tidal rivers and streams, harbors, shores, e~c. No action taken by this board. C&~ELO MARINO'S BOND: PLANNING BOARD A letter was received from the Planning Board adMising the Selectmen tham the reason Mr. Marino posted a bond with the to~n,zas done in compliancewith the r~es and regulations governing the subdivision of land adopted under The Subdivision Control Law. Such bond or security as required shall be posted wi.th the Selectmen and shall be contingent upon the completion of such improvements within two years of~he date of. the bond. POLICE DEPARtmENT: Myron Ae;~is came before the board to see if it would be allowable for him~o retire as required at the end of the month of ~darch and then receive two weeks pay in lieu of the two weeks vacation due him and he suggested that the .Board of Selectmen adopt this as part of the Police Department rules and regulations. Mr. Willis felt that this was a matter Which could be adopted by the Selectmen and in substance it would mean ~hat any officer upon retiring, during the year, in lieu of his annual vacation, may be granted a two weeks salary. Mr. %?illis suggested that this be checked ~lth Mr. Maker and with ~r. Dine. A motion was made that the Board of Selectmenamend the Police By-Laws, rules and regulations promulgated in. 1932 and revised in 1950, in such a manner that paragraph 26 shall read: E~ery officer may be allowed fourteen days vacation in each financial year~_thout loss of pay except that no officer shall receive any vacation in the year of his appointment.. For sickness or injury other than that received in the line of duty, members of the Force may be allowed upon approval of the Selectmen nor more than sixty days pay in eac~ Einancial year, a~ half pay. ~en required by the Chief of Police, a physician,s certificate of such sickness shall be furnished. Any police officer reaching retirement in any given year may receive upon separation from service, two weeks pay in liew of the fourteen days annual vacation allowed under the previous sentence. Mr. Willis suggested that this paragraph be checked with Mr. Dine-to see if it can be done and then follow up in writing so that we may have something for the records. NEXT }~EETZNG: The next meeting ~ill be. held on February 18, 1955 because of the Holiday eve on February 21. The board will notify Mrs. McQuesten to meet w&th them on February 28, rather than of February 21, as had been previously planned.
