The board received a reply from this company advising that Mr. Szelest and Mr.
P~berts had been contacted by them and they will rectify any damage caused by then
at the property of the above mentioned persons. The heavy rains will cauSe a delay
on the property of Mr. Szelest but the~ have satisfied both Mr. Roberts and Mr.
Szelest that they will take care of this matter.
ACCIDENT REPORT:
A copy of.an accident involving Frank Shottes, 25 Harkaway Road, while working for
the Dept. of Public ~orks was received by the board. No action required.
SCHOOL COMMITteE- FRANCIS J. O'BRIEN:
~he Board received a letter from Mr. O,Srien stating that he confidently believed
that the four members of the School Committee will be present at the meeting of
the Selectmen on September 12, 1955 at 8:00 P.M. to appoint a successor tc the
school committee.
PRECINCT OFFICERS APPOINTED:
The board considered ,'the present list of precinct officers and the vacancies
existing in said list. %here were many changes made in the list and the complete
list as approved by the board on this day is filed in the Selectmen's file under
Precinct Officers. ~his list is for one year from August 15, 1955 to August 15,
1956.
DEPART'~NT OF PUBLIC WORKS:
Two certifications were received for work performed by Martin Maile~, onGreat Pond-
Road under Contract No. 15362, in the amount of $22,791.05 and$2~,881.05 and the
Dept. recommends that the amounts of $871.70 and~l,776.50 be paid teethe contractor
by the town. No action required by the board as bills are paid by the Highway Dept.
FLOORS IN T0%~ BUILDING:
The board .received the foliowing prices for' v~ashtng~ waxing and polishing -t'~'~ 12 offices
in the .town building which have recently been covered with rubber tile;
Eawrence Window Cleaning CO. $109.00; American Window Cleaning Co. $75.00 and
the City Window Cleaning Co. $70. ?ne board voted to award this work to the..City
Window Cleaning Co. and request that the work be completed by September.12, 1955.
BO!~ TOWN:
Mr. Kirk informed the board that he,had talked.with Daniel Grieco about appointment
· as chairman of the Boys Town Committee and he agreed to take it and. attend the
meeting in Boston on Sept.7~ If there is. not too much work involved he witl~ continue
on.as chairman or recommend some other.person to the board. The board agreed to "
:.purchase two tickets for the informal dinner to be held in Boston on the above date
and suggest that Mr. Grieco bring a guest with him.
The Board voted unanimously to gc along with Mr. Kirk's suggestion.
STREET LIGHT.-SECOND S 19EET: ..
The board voted to.inform Mr. Frost at the Lawrence Electric Company about a complaint
received relative to the light on Second Street across from the McEvoy property..Tosy
will ask Mr. Frost to check the location and send his recommendation to the~board.
· ALPH BRASSEUR- T0~VN RECORDS:~
2be Board voted unanimously to -invite Mr. Brasseur to meet with the board on'Sept. 12,
at 7:30 P.M. to discuss maps and records of the town which are in Mr. Brasseur's
possession and to determine how the town can obtain these records or exact copies so
that they will be available at the town building.
TOWN HISTORY: .....
?ne Board discussed .the town history and the completion of same. After a length
discussion, ~r. Kirk made amotion that Mrs. Carolynn McQuesten be inf~rmedothat no
further vouchers will be approved for her services until the history is completed,
including the printing and publishing of same. ?ney also voted.to ask for a~completion
date so that they can go ahead with this work and to inform Mrs~ McQuesten that if and
when this history is completed, they will reimburse- her for her services rendered
if there is any money left in the appropriation.
