tmsn held a meeting at 7:00 P.M. on this night, becuuse of the
holiday on Sept. 5. Ail members were present. Weekly bills and payrolls were
approved.
COMPLAINT:
~re. John Griffin, 871 Chickering Road, complained to the board about the lack
of action taken in the case of Mrs. Chaoin, Prescott Street, who is still violating
the zoning and health laws and is planning ~o buy ducks. She said her husband is
ill and is disturbed by the chickens~ She has received some cooperation from Mr.
Caren but Dr. Kay said it would be several months before the case was cleared up.
Mr. Finneran informed Nfs. Griffin that this matter is to be acted upon by the
Board of Health on September 12, next, if Mrs. Chapin has not disposed of the live
stock. The other members agreed that no action could be =aken by the selectmen at
this time, ~end~ng the outcome of the Board of Health action and that the ma~oer
as it pertains to the Selectmen has been turned over to To~n Counsel.
Mrs. Griffin added that Mrs. Chapin has three unlicensed dogs and the board advised
her to report this matter to the Dog Officer.
PRECINCT OFFIUEPS:
At the request of George A. P~a, the Board voted unanimously to change his classi-
fication on the precinct officer list to that of Ballo~ Clerk and ~o change that
of Fred G. Whitbier ~o Deputy~arden. Mr. Lyons will be notified of this change.
TREE REMOVAL REQUEST:
Theodore Peters, 201 Dale Street, requests the removal of two trees in front ofhis
proper~. Mr. Conners has checked these trees and suggests tha~ they be removed
after a'hea~ing. The board voted unanimously to hold a hearing on Sept. 19, 1~55 at
7:30 P.M.
*Mr. Conners later advised this office that he had to remove the trees at once as
Mr. Carry had done some excavating there and the ~rees created a hazardous condition,
as they were apt to fall at the least provocation. No hearing will be held and Mr.
Conners had discussed this with the board members.
P~QUEST FOR ~RANSFEB FRO~{RESERVE .~%~ND:
James'Dewhiret, tax collector, presented forms to the Selectmen, requesting the
transfer of $200 from the Reserve Fund ~o his appropriation to cover expenses for
the balance of the year. His clerk has been out sick and itv~as necessary t o hire a
girl for ~wo ~eeks and there was no money available. A clerk was hired~for two weeks
~while the clerk was on vacation.
The board referred the matter to the Advisory Board for 'their approval.
LAWRENCE GAS COMPANY:
A letter from George ~. Cnlver, Mgr. of this c6mpany informed ~he board that a
Mr. McDonough had arranged with Ira D. Cary to have the high~ay condition on Linden
~en~e c~rre~t~d an~ ~e wowu~d .~il~ ithe Gas C9mp~n~!s portion of this expense to them.

amount of the cos% of patching and Mr._Certyv~ill be so notified.
DEPT. OF PUBLIC %¥ORKS:
The board received a letter regarding the drainage condition at the in{ersecttan of
Mass. Ave. and Waverley Road and recommended that a 36" pipe should be extended from
the existing headwall to a proposed ~anhole, then extended for approximately 90' in
the existing 'ditch along ~averley. Road. A proposed catch basin should be built in
'the shoulder of Waverley Road, as sho~n on the attached sketch and a 12" pine con-
nected from the proposed catch basin to the proposed manhole. '
The Board voted unanimously ~o refer this recommendation to Mr. Masimarra and Mx.
Kirk will have some copies ~,ade of the plan so that one may be ~ent to Mr. Musimarra.
RE~OL~ERRERMIT APPROVAL:
The board voted unanimously to approve the application of Frank Paparella, 103 Brad~
ford Street, for a license to carry a revolver. The application had been approved
by Chief McKee.
LA~E{ENCE GAS COMPANY:
The Board granted permission to this company to excavate 13 feet in street to install
gas service fbr Carl Hoyt, 364 ~averleyRoad. Mr. Carty will be notified and the
form has been sm~mped b~ the Board of Public "orks.
LAWRENCE ELECTRIC COMPANY:
The Board voted to request Mr. F~ost to check the location of the fire box on Third
Street near Milton, ~o see if a larger light could be installed on this pole and
thus eliminate a smaller light in this area. They also voted to request that he
check on the lights requested on Oak Ave, Edmands, Road, Silsbee Road and all other
requests no~ filled.
The board had previously requested information on a white way on Main Street from
Sutton Street to Water Street and since ~his would be underground and very expensive
the board will request the cost of white way~ith above ground wiring.
