HomeMy WebLinkAbout1955-11-14164 A letter was received by the board informing them that there is to be a Census Trect meeting on November 15, 1955 at 2:00 P.M. a~ the Chamber of Commerce, Conference Room, Bay State Building. The Board ~o have Mrs. Dearden a~end the meeting and represent the Selectmen. INSURANCE- CHAPTER 32-A A copy of a letter sen~ ~o the town treasurer was received by the board relative to Contributory Life, Accident and Sickness, Hosoitalization, Medical and Surgical insurance for persons in the service of a municipality and ex%ends benefits to their dependents. This is permissive but must be voted on by the town as to whether or not they will accep~ it and its provisions. If accepted, then the ~o~.m musm pay 50% of the cos~ of the insurance purchased providing for the benefits. This bill is ~o be studied for clarification of technical or legal questions. The Board felt that no action should be taken at this time until clarification is made and also that they felt that the employees will bring this to thea ttention of the Selectmen a~ which time action can be taken. 'DAMAGE CLAIM- THOMAS MCGRAIL A letter was .received from ~illiam B..Dully.relative to an inquiry regarding damage to an automobile because of a water trench a~ 257 Middlesex Street. Due to the leak the backfill ;vaa wet sc that the holes w~re horsed off and warning lights placed. On October 15, 1955 the holes were leveled off wibh gravel and the horses removed. On October 18, the excess gravel.fill.~as removed and the area patched with~ar p~tch. George Sanford replaced one horse and lights during the night of October 14, after the Police Department reported tha~ it had been.knocked down. The Police report showed that Mr. McGrail.had reported on 0btober I7, 1955 thathis car hit a hole on Middlesex Street last Saturday,(October 15) and. it bent the rim of his rear wheel. The police referred him to Mr. Duffy and the Selectmen. The Board voted to requesz Mr. McGrail to mee~ with them on Novemb6r 21, 1955 a{ 7:00 P.M. to discuss this claim. APPROVAL OF TRANSFER FRO~q RESERVE FUND: Approval ~ecezved from the AdvisorylBoerd on.the :rensfer o~ $335 to the To,~ Building appropriation to take care of replacing service wires and increasing the capacity to !00 AMP. Pmnning a circuit for outlets for use in payloader sheds, rewiring and repairs' to outside ball lights, ~o~n building. To install two side rails in fr0nt-of~ the town · building. Approval of $50.00 ~o the Armistice Day appropriation to t~ke care of expense for the .celebration of this day. APPLICATION FOR LICENSE TO ~ARRY A REVOLVER: The Board approved the application of Gasper J.' DeMario,' 386 Sutton 'Street for a license ~o carry a revolver for protection. Salisbury for legal services in the mat~er of the Colgate appeal was redeived by the board. Boston for all persons interested in shore protective, stream clearance and public dam repair work made necessary as the result of the floo.d damage of August 19, 1955. The Board voted ~o refer this ~o William B. Duffy and to Ira D. Carty. · Ak~RICAN LECION: ~ A letter received from .Robert D. LA%~RENCE ELECTRIC CO: A petition for permission to locate poles, wires, etc. on the'westerly side of Clark Street a% a ooint approximately 837 feet northerly from Osgood St., 1 pole was re- ceived and a hearing se~ for November 28, 1955 a% 7:30 P.M. ~continued The. Board discussed the matter of. the new proposed schools~ the east side sewer project and Mr. Broadhead suggested that the Selectmen start thinking about this .expense and have some coordination with the other department heads. Mr; Kirk stated that ~he has always thought that the Department Heads should meet ~ least four times a year and he would like to suggest that the Selectmen arrange a meeting in January and discuss all mam~ers. Mr. Broadhead felt that each project should be discussed and everyone would know ~what the_other department has in mind._ The board voted to hold such a meeting in ~anuary CHRIST~AS PARADE: :- .~ ~ : Several people camebefore the boardto find out what had. been decided on for the _Christmasparty. Mr. Finneran~informed them that they have,not been informedas to .whethers.or not.they could use the~townfunds from the Centennial celebration appro tion but Mr. Maker would let the board know in a few days. Mr.~Firmeran talked.with Legasse and they are interested in making it a dual date.They charge $%00 a float for two floats and will furnish t00 heads for $%00 for the parade. The Board met with Thomas McGrail to discuss his claim for damage to hislautom$bile - on November 15, 1955 when he hit ~a ~hole on Middlesex Street. ~he ~dates were cnn- ! ~'flicting in the police report but~Mr; McGrail~ explained that it was an error and '°that the accident occurred on November 15~and'he ~e~orted it to the PoIice ~0a Nov.17. After discussing the necessary repairs the board voted unamimously ~to allow the total amount of the claim as presented, that is $111.50. BOARD OF TRADE: : A l~t~ter' .r.e~6eived"informing the Board that the Board of Trade wil~ coopera~e Lu every way in regards ~to the Christmas parade as mentioned in ourlettar of November 1. They will supply mmn power for the parade and help gift wrap and present the 'gifts to the children. S-D DAY: - The Board of trade acknowledged o~r. letter with reference to S-D Day on Dec.1 next, and all the merchants wLll cooperate in every way possibIe to make this a success. LAWRENCE ELECTRIC COMPANY: A reply to our letter of November 16, Informed the board that th'~ light ~on Cb~Api~n Road has been installed. In regard to %he outages, Mr; Frost explained that we 'had · a similar complaint in July and we were given specific cases and in return received a copy of record pertaining to restoration of service. Mr. Frost referred to the 'malicious damage each year around this time especially during the Nolloween period. Their hurricane damage has~ bcen restored to normal and there should be no difficulty from temporary connectionsJ Mr. Frost stated that they will do all they possibly can to insure good street lighting service if we will gi~e them the 'data on specific instances of lights being out of servtce~ and find out what the story is.
