LAWRENCE ELECTRIC CO:
~ letter received recommending that a 10OO Sumen light be installed on' pole 2210
near 9 Cabot Rd. and two 1000 lumen lights on Woodbridge Road, one on pole 3587 and
on pole 3877.
On the section bounded by Greene St., Middlesex St. Lyman Road and Mass. Ave. Mr. Erost
suggested various lights to be installed in this area and the cost would be $198 per
year.
The Board voted unanimously to request the installation of the lights on Woodbridge and
near Cabo~ Road.
Mr. Kirk made a motion that the board check the locations on th~ large area before making
a decision as to' the installation of the lights recommended. The vote was unanimous.
N.E. T & T CO: LA~TRENCE EECTRIC CO:
A petition for permission to locate poles, wires, cables, etc. on the southerly,side
of Osgood Street, at a point approximately 378 feet westerly from Court Street, 1 pole.
One existing light company location to be abandoned. The board set a hearing for
this petition on December 5, 1955 at 7:30 P.M.

A letter received relative to the Group Life, insurance, accidental death and
Dismembernebt insurance, hospitalization and surgical and medical expense benefits vas
received. No action taken at this ~ime.
MASS. ~CTMEN'S ASSO:
A~memo and a copy of "Bulletin E" was received by the Board. This bulletin has.been
prepared by Danforth W. Comins, Executive Secretary. The Board members will read this
bulletin in their spare time.
DEPT. OF PU~r~IC WORKS:
Notice received that the Department of Public i~orks has selected the/following-/2own
Highway'oh whi6h assistance will be given on plowing for the fiscal year ending June 30,
1956: Auto ~oute No. 133, from Route 125 to the Boxford Line, 1.60 miles.
~EVOLVER PEET APPLICATIONS:
The Board voted unanimously to approve the following applications for a license to
'carry e revolver. Edwin P. Donnelly, 100 Marbleridge Road, Truck Driver andPmlph J.
Bolderson, 12 Harold St. Milk-man. Both applications were approved by Chief' NcKee.
SAFE*DRIVING DAY:
Myron Lewis presented a 'pr6clamation and other material for the paper with r-&re,once
to S D Day on D~cember.l~ 1956. '~Mr. Murphy of the Tribune took this materiel a~d will
use what he can in his column. . .. ~.
DRivER-training car: Accident;
Mr. McGrail informed the board that there is collision and' property~ damage insurance
on the school driver training car and that the claim presented by. John'Ma~d~ 'sh6uld
be paid by the 'insurance company. He-took the estimate and the police reports- and will
return them as soon 'as possible.
'~FIRE BOX:
Mr. Daniel 01enio reported that the fire box in front of his proper~y isnow' about 10'
from ~he ground which is due to the fact that the road has been evened off to a lower
grade. This has been reported to the Fire Chief by Mr. Finneran and will be checked by
him~
SHAKING HOUSE:
Mr. Beaudoin came before the board to see if they had any solution %o his problem. His
two family house a~ the corner of Union and Beverly Streets has been sha~gf~or hours
at a time and he has been unable to det~rmins what the canse is. He has had many suggestions
as to the cause but he thought the Selectmen might be able %o call in s6meone who is an
authority on such matters to find out what he can do. He said it appears ~o be only the
house which shakes and not the cellar or the foundation. T~.e building inspector~ has checked
it and can find no reason for this trouble. Mr. Finneran mnformed Mr. Beaud0in .that he
has "tried to contact Mr. McGarn of the State Department of Public Safety %o see if he
· has any suggestions and as soon as the board hears from him, they will contact Mr.
CHRISTMAS PARADE:
The Centennial committee held a meeting to-night and they voted to allow $700 to be used
for this celebration at X~as. The Board voted unanimousYy to appoint Philip Sutcliffe
and John Lyons as co-chairman and James Maker-treasurer with Carl Thomas as secretary.
~he parade ~ill be hel'd on December 3, 1955 at 10:00 o'clock A. M. Members of ~he Board
of Trade have asked that the parade go on Wa~er Street. The board voted tosend a letter
of thanks ~o the ~oard of Trade for their cooperation..

T0~ HISTORY:
Edward Garvey came before the board to inquire if the Town History was 5o be
completed this year. He was Just asking for his own information as he had .been
looking ~hreugh to~n reports and noticed the various appropriations for this work.
The Board informed him %hat they have requested that the history be tdrned in to
the Selectmen by December 5, 1955, complete. No reply has been received from
Mrs. McQuesten. -
The regular weekly meeting o£ the Board, of Selectmen was held at 7:30 P,.M. with
all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.

A hearing was held on the petition of these companies for permis-~icn .to have Joint
pole locations on Hillside -Road, at Chestnut Street, 1 pole and Hillside ~oad,
woutherly from a point approximately 200 fee. t south of Chestnut'.~Street~' 2 ~poles.
The board voted~unanimously to ~grant this permission.
~T~EE RE~VAL HEARING:
A hearing was held on the reqnes{ of Horrace' Howard, 61 Brightwood Ave..for removal
of a tree. Mr. Connors was present and recommended that the tree be removed. The
Board voted unanimously to request the tree warden to remove this .tree.~/'
STREET LIGHT REQUESTS: ~' ~ ~, · , ·
Mr. Gearhart from Glenni~'s Plant requested that street lights be ins~mlle~d
Clark Street and suggested that five lights be installed, one at Lawrence~4Process
% Co. Hea~ty's residence, Richlyn Club, Rogers property and Glennie's I~an%:' The
Board voted unanimously ~o request that a .sur~ey be made by Lawrence Electric Co.

for any recommendati, on he may h'ave relative to lights in the area of the plant.

TREE REMOVAL REQUEST:~
Edward Garvey reques~ed.tha removal of a ~ree in front, of his property at .182
Middlesex Street. He is planning to build a driveway and this tre~. is in.,the ~ ay.
Mr. Connors informed the board .that the tree ~should be removed, anda hearing w as

A letter was received from E,i?ln P. Salbaugh, Regional supervisor relative to the
recent meeting held in Lawrence and informing them that Herber.~ C..Wteland, Lawrence
~Oity Planning Director has.agrged to head a small gzoup, which will prepare .the
"preliminary layo~ut of 'the proposed tracts.
FLOOD RELIEF & HURRICAHE BOARD:
Memorandum.received informing the board that the new address will be 90 .Tremont

unanimously approved by th~ board. Thehearing required.was held on this date at
7:30 P.M. Abutters were notified and there was no opposition.
LAW~NCE ELECTRIC CO: OVERHEAD WHITE,AY:
A list of the suggested locations for 20,O00 lumen mercury vapor lights with over-
head distribution was received from Lawrence Electric Co. The cost of these new
lights would be $1900. The board accepted the plan and will consider this new plan
when budgets are to be figured. This applies to the Mifflin Park area also.
