The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:30 P.M. ~ith
all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.
TREE RENOVAL 'HEARING:
A hearing was held on the application of Mrs. Hyland$, 51 Parker Street for the
removal of a tree whose roots interfere with the sewer ~pipes. Mr. Connors agreed
that the tree should be removed and the board voted unanimously to request that
Mr. ¢onnors remove the tree inquestion.
INVITATION TO GOVERNOR'S RECEPTION:
The Board accepted the invitation.to attend the reception at the Hall of Flags
on February 22, 1956, State House, Boston.
RESIGNATION- PRECINCT T~O:
Elizabeth A.~ Murphy 26 Second Street, sent in her resignation as Cl~r~'in Precinct
T~o, to become effective at once. The board accepted the resignation ~ith regrets.
.No action will be taken on replacing Miss Murphy until 'Februar~ 6, ~1956.
GIFT OF LAND OFFERED TO TO;~N: '
A letter W~s received from Helen Coolidge informing the board that the i$chool
Committee's intention is ~o take five acres of her land on And0ver Street for the
proposed new School. She is deeply opposed to their doing this as it. is the best
source of ha~. supply for her ~cows. She is making an offer of a gift ~6' them of
5 acres on the west side of Chtcke~ing Road, thereby saving the to~ _m~u.~ y thousands
of dollars. She further states that this is a very. valuable piece~of~.lasd and one
of,the ~sites chosen by Dr. ~eeves in his survey.
No~ action taken 'by the board as they feel that this information is ~already in the
hands of the school committee.
LAWEgNCE EIECT~C COMPANY.
A letter was received from George Frost informing the board as .to ~the locations
of the various 15,000 lu~n mercury lights throughout the town. These units
ne increased to 21,000 lumens at an additional cost of $5.00 per year per unit.
To increase all of these units to 21,000 lumens would cost $110 per year. Mr.
Finneran wiT1 contact Mr~ Frost relative to this matter.
1~0~ J . LANE:
A letter requesting an appointment with the Select~en on January ~0,~ ~1956 wins re-
ceived from Thomas J. Lane to discuss the matter of land on ~averley'~Park, ow~ned
by Anthony and Fortunata Bellia. The board voted to inform Mr. Lane that they
will meet with him an January 30, 1~56 at any time convenient for him.
NE~? ENGLAND FIRE INSURANCE RATING ASSOCIATION:
A letter received informing the board that they will be pleased to meet with the
chairman of this board and with the fire chief ~o. discuss the prospect of another
-fire station in North Andover. He will be in his office (Mr. PerCY C. Charnock)
after January 24th and Mr. Finneran will contact him relative to an a~p~intment.
DEPARTMENT OF P~IC WORKS
Notice received that the Board of Commissioners made a tentative grant, contingent
upon local action, in the sum of $16,000., for highway purposes in tbis~town.
They asked to notified of the action taken ~by the to~m by supplying a copy
of the town,s vote. Project listed .is Greene Street, State $15,000, Town $7,500
County $7,500 and Maintenance $1,000 Sta~e and $2,000 Town.
DEPARTMENT OF PUR~IC WORKS
Notice received that the work called for by Contract No. 15362, dated September
28, 1955 with North Andover, on Great Pond Road, under Chapter 90 was satisfactoril2
completed on Octobe~ 27, 1955 and a formal notice will be received~'at a later date.
DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH:
A copy of a letter sent to the Board of Public ~¥orks, relative to the proposed
acquisition' of land for water supply protection was received by the board. A
hearing was held on December 28, 1955 and the Department of Public Health is of
the opinion that the parcel of 'land proposed for taking is necessary for the
protection of thevaters of Lake Cochichewick and they have approved the taking.
An article is included in the 1956 w~rrant for the pur. ehase of this l~nd.
S.~EEDING-CHICKERING ROAD:
In reply to our letter to Mr. Curry at the Department of Public' Jorks in Danvers,
Mr. Pappawell discussed the matter ~ith Mr. Finneran and Chief NcXee and informed
them that they will nonsider the area on Chic~ering and will make a survey of
the area and report back to this board a~ a later date.
C01I~LAIN T:
A complaint was made by Mr. Emerson relative to the surface drain which is not
working correctly on "mifflin Drive. The board voted to refer this to Mr. Carty,
who is familiar with this situation.
