L~.NTERN CORPORATION- SIGNS:
A reply receivedfrom this company informing the board that they had checked with the
building inspector will respect to their signs being placed throughout the town and
they were aivised to contact the Commonwealth for permission. They have done this and
are s~aiting approval from them. The Board requested that John Conners, tree warden, be
contacted and askedto check on the signs %~ich were placed on thetrees.
LAWRENCE ELECTRIC CO:
A reply from this compan~ on the survey made in front of the Western Electric Plant
and they suggest five 21,000 lumen mercury va~p~or lights on poles 350, 353, 357, 360
and 363 and the removal of the existing 1000 Humeri lights from poles 350, 356, 360 and
363. The additional cost to the to~*n would be $428.00 per year.
The board voted to~fer this information to the Western Electric Company for their
approval before tsking final action.
The Board also voted to request a survey to be made by this company in the vicinity
of Joe's Diner, Osgood Street.
CIVIL SERVICE-RESERVE POLICE:
The Board discussed the matter of appointing two Reserve Officers from the Civil Service
list. Mr. Kirk made a motion, seconded by Raymond Broadhead to appoint Daniel Quinlan
and the vote was unanimous. )~. Broadhead made a motion that Arthur Mawsan be appointed
but there was no second. Mr. Finneran made a motion that Janes E. Fitzgerald be appointed,
seconded by Arthur P. Kirk and vote~as unanimous.
JULY 16, 1956:
The by-montl~ly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:30 P.M. with all members
present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.
CHAPTER 80 COMMITTMENT:
The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to inform the Board of Assessors that they
have voted to change the name on the Order of Assessment, committed to them in March
of 1956 as follows: The present name of Bertha Sheehan will be changed to Joseph and
Rita Markey, land on Putnam Road, since Mr. & Mrs. Markey were the owners of this land
on January 2, 1956. A letter will be sent ~o the Board of Assessors.
BUILDING PERMIT REQUEST- T~omas Ferlito
Mr. Thomas Ferlito appeared before the board to discuss the matter of his applying for
a building permit and being refused by the building inspector. We had recently ad-
vised the building inspector that a complaint had been received with respect to old
lumber being stored on Mr. Ferlito's property on Mablin Ave. Mr. Finneran contacted
Mr. Lawlor and foundthat there had been a misunderstanding and that Mr. Ferlito had
not made a formal request for an application. Mr. Fer!ito informed the board that
he had sorted out the lumber and disposed of the pieces which were old and rotted and
the remainder he plans to use in his building if a permit is granted. He has two rooms
there which were built previous to 19h3 and he intends to buy a building from Mrs. Pauline
Blood and have it moved to this location. Mrs. Bloodwas also present and she had received
a permit from the State to move the building along Mass. Ave. between No,day and Friday
noon with no moving to be done between Friday noon ~nd Monday n~on. The building is in
good condition and Mr. Ferlito canmake a nice home on his land. The permit expires on
July 24, 1956 and there is not much time but a request will be made at once to Mr. Lawlor.
Mr. Ferlito was informed that he must conform to the Board of Health rules with respect
to a septic tank and if necessary the board ~ill meet during the week in order to help
Mr. Ferlito.
TREE REMOVA~ HEARINGS:
Hearings were held on the petitions of Reginald Meade, Osgood Street and Mrs. Killam,
Waverley Road for the removsl of~ees. The tree warden was present and agreed that these
trees should be removed. The board voted unanimously to instructthe ~ree warden to
remove these trees.
REQUEST FOR R~NOVAL OF ~0 TREES:
Mr. Eugene Ruess, 39 Harold Street requests the removal oft~o trees, in,rent of his
property; one on Harold Street and one on Marblehead Street. There s re too many~ees
in front of his property and they canno~ get any light. They have to keep the lights
on in the house all day. A hearing~sse~ for July 30, 1956 at 7:15 P.M.
LAWRENCE ELECTRIC COMPANY*HEARING:
A hearSmg was held on the petition of this company for permission to locate,poles, wires,
etc. on the easterly side of Putnam Road, at a point approximately 21-feet southerly
from Mifflin Drive, 1 pole. The board voted unanimously to grant this permission.
BILLS FOR SERVICES- SEARCH FOR BOY' S BODY AT STEVENS POND:
Chief James Daw and Dewey A. Dyer met with the Selectmen and discussed ~wo bills, one -
for compressed air supplied and one for sandwiches, coffe~, etc.
