LAWRENCE GAS COMPANY:
The board unanimously approved the request of the La~=ence Gas Company for permission
to excavate 34feet in stree~ a% Pleasant Street %o install gas service ~'or Richard
Lafond,~ 321 Osgood Street. Approved by Bd. of Public Works and Mr. Carty notified.
NEW ENGLAND T & T CO:
A reply received relative to an outdoor public telephone in the ~North Andover Center.
The letter stated that for the past two years they have talked with the people in
the Country Store on the right hand side of the square and have selected a location
for a booth. However, the people that live in that~;l~?~lding do not think it is a good
location~ The location will be reviewed again andes will be advised as to what the
outcome will be.
NEW ENGLAND T & T CO-LAWRENCE ELECTRIC CO:
The Board approved the petition~ these two companies for Joint locations on existing
poleson various locations in the town. .No hearing required on this petition.
DAMAGE CLAIMS:
A claim for damage to a Chrysler Sedan owned by Francis A. Barous, 98 Central St.
Andover in the amount of $139.80 was received by the Board. The claimstates 'that
~the Mack Dump truck, (Highway) driven by Harold Windle backed into the Chrysler which
was parked in Andover Square on.July 16, 1956 at 9:45 A.N. No report was received
from the Highway Dept. and the board voted to. reques~ areport from them and the mason
that this town truck was parked in Andover at the time stated in the claim, before an~
action is taken by this board.
A second claim for damage to an automobile was received from Albin J. Fortuna~ 231 ·~'~..~'
Bailey St.Lawrence in the amount o f $20.75. The claim states that his car was damaged
on Water Street on Thursday evening, July 19, 1956 due to an obstruction in the side-
walk. The Board voted to request a report from Mr. Carty with respect to ~his claim.
PRECINCT OFFICERS:
The Bosrddiscussed the list of names presented byAtty. Chsrles W. Tromblyfor the
purpose of appointments to the Precinct Officers list 4nd voted ko request an opinion
from Judge Thomson to determine if the Board is obligated to appoint the persons
~named on the list as presented.
CHAPTER 90MAINTENANCE:
The Board voted to inform Russell E. Jenkins, District Highway Engineer that~they
recommend the use of this money to be used on Salem Street from the Boxford~treet
to the Middleton Line first, Sutton Street, second and Great Pond Road third. A
letter will be sent to Mr. Jenkins with this information.
GASOLINE STORAGE A~RLICATION:
An application for permission to store an additional 3,000 g~l~ ons of gasoline in
one underground tank at Sutton Street, Esso Standard Oil Co. wasmceivedby ~he board.
A hearing wfll be~held on Jttly 30, 1956 at 7:10 P.M. in this office.

The regular by-mom~hlymeeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:00 P.M. with
members Finneran and Kirkpresent. Mr. Broadhead was on,cation. Weekly bills and
payrolls were approved~
LAWRenCE ELECTRIC CO:
A hearing was held on the petition of this company for permission to locatenpoles,
~4res and fixtures on the southerly side of Beech Avenue at a point approximately
151 feet easterly fromM ass. Ave. 1 pole. The board voted unanimously to grant
this permission.
LAWRENCE ELECTRIC COMPANY:
A hearing was held on the petition of this company for permission to erect, construct
maintain and operate such transmission lines with ~rires to be strung across the
public ways between towers or poles located on private property on the highways
Sutton Street, Proper5y owner- Suttons Mills to Swift Terminals, Inc.
Elm Street, Boston and Maine Railroad to Boston and Main Railroad
Chickering Road, Boston &Maine.Railroad to Boston and Maine Railroad
Osgood Street, Boston and Maine Railroad to Boston and Muine Railroad.
The Board voted unanimously to grant permission for this work to be done.
