letter was received from Ralph Brasseur, C. E. in which he e~lained how Bradford

Street came to be anaccepted way and how the fifty foot street is arrived at. He
mentioned various other streets in ~own which apply in the same manner.
Mr. DiMaurc, Mr. Constantino and Mr. Durso were present at the meeting. Mr. Kirk
was willing to give a release ~o allow them to btuild the three houses on this
street and then the board will study the matter'and determine what the width of the
street should be. This was agreeable to all members of the board. They will contact
the Board of Heslth and will also discuss this with Ralph Ftnck of the Board of
Appeals.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE:
Francis Kittredge and FranCis O,Rrien were present to discuss a special to~m meeting
for the purpose of a new elementary school. Mr.~ Kittredge stated that he felt that
the town recognizes the need for a new school and even i~ it weres tarted now it would
probably be the fall of 1958 before it would be ready. They have talked about a
SS00,O00 building. They have no desire to push this thing and they want to be
perfectly certain that the Selectmen and the Advisory Board have ample time to think
this over and they plan to have a complete and full report for the ~ownspeople.
Mr. Finneran mentioned setting a date for the town meeting but Mr. Kirk felt that
they should wait ~o have .a chance to study the report and also to give the townspeople
a good opportunity to do this also.'"
Mr. Kittredge agreed to have their articles before the board for their next meeting
and also the.reports ~which they plantto Zend out to the townspeople.
The Board felt t~at the meeting should be held on the nineteenth or the twenty-sixth
day of Noveiabe~.
AIRPORT COMMISSION MEETING:
Mr. Burke, liaison officer met 'with the board and informed them that he w.as received
v~ry graciously by the commission but that mos~ of the evening was taken updiscusSing
the Zimny hanger. However, they did say they would like to meet with the Selectmen and
Mr. Burke at a meeting in the near future and the board agreed to meet with them on 'a
Wednesday or a Monday even~ug at their convenience. .
Mr. Burke stated that Mrs. Roger' s problem with respect to the beacon was discussed.
Mr. Finneran informed the board that Mr. Burke had suggested that ~any damage to Clark
Street or elsewhere should be taken~re of each month add the board agreed that this
should be discussed at their meeting with the commissioners.
VOTING HOUBS FOR NATIONAL ELECTION:
John J. Lyons and the chairman of the Board of Registrars, Patrick Cronin, met with
the board.. Mr. Lyons informed them that the ballot is read~ and there are three '~es
and no,, questions on it. They wanted to know what the hours would be for the polls.
The board had previously voted to have the polls open at 7:00 A.M. and close at eight
P.M.~ Mr.' Lyons said it would be necessary to pay the officers an extra hours pay for
· overtime
Mr; Lyons inquired if the Board would consider' changing the hours from the present
ones to seven to seven which would be uniform with all other places. The Board agreed
to consider this request.
The matter 'of proper police patrolling was discussed and Mr. Cronin will go over this
with Chief McKee. The distance according to law is 150 feet from the polls.
Mr. Kirk inquired if it would be possible to have the checkers sit inside rather than
in the corridor and he felt that it would be an easy matter to arrange this. It w as
agreeable to Mr. Lyons and Mr. Cronin to go along with this suggestions which was
received from the chairman of. the Republican Committee and the chairman of the Democratic
committee.
BIDS: TOWN INFIP~M3J:
Two bids were received for covering the floors at the Town Infirmary. One from
E]~iott's of Lawrence in the amount of $1389.00 which would be in complete accordance
with the specifications and would include 1/4 Nasonite underl~yment board throughout
all areas to be covered plus the 6" rubber coverbase, sanding and finishing wood floors
The second bid was from Thomas Fretwell who bid a'total of $1866.77 in accordance with
the specifications.
The Board discussed the bids and since Elli$tt~s was lowest, the voted to request
that he aupply a breakdown of each unit. The reasong&ven is that there is not
enough money to pay' for al] the work to be dons and one unit will have to be dis-
continued.
The Board will award the bid to Elliott if the' figures are broken down to each
unit.
LL%~RMENS MUTUAL CASUALTY CO:
Notice received that the Finding and Decision of the Reviewing Board of the Division
of Industrial Accidents in the case of George A. Carsy, vs. Town of North Andover
is a denial of the employee's claim for compensation as of Monday, October 8, 1956.
PEET GRANTED:
The Board granted a permit ~o the West Street Motors for an automobile parade to go
through North ~ndover on November 8, 1956. They plan mo go through Andover, Lawrence
and Methuen also.
