Mr. Finneran explained the feeling of the Board of Public Work, Board of Health and State Dept. of Public Health. Mr. Gilber~ said that with respect to leakage it could happen to 2,000 gallons as wellas 8,000 or 10,000 gallons. Me said it would be much better to service by trailor ratherthan just 2,000 gallons. He also said that if there was a leak it would be determined before 20 gallons of gasoline were used. Most major companies require air testing periodically. If his company took a lien on the station they would improve the place as the business grew. Rest rooms would have to be improved at once and he thinks it would be advantageous to isprove the building. The Board informed him that the matter had been taken under advisement and he would Be advised later as to the action taken by the board. RESERVE FUND TRANSFER-APPROVED Approval received from the idvisory Board on the amount of $1594.43 to be transferred to the Police Department for wages for police officers who worked at Western Electric Company during the strike. DEPT. OF PUBLIC UTILITIES: Notice received that a hearing will be held on December 14, 1956 at 10:00 A.M. at the State House, Boston on the petition of the Boston and Main Railroad for an order granting permission to publish and file with the Department certain~ariff schedules 'which were listed in the notice. JUROR DRAWN: Raymond Broadhead drew the name of Fred Christie, 25Maple Ave. Caretaker of pa~ks and playgrounds to serve as a Juror at the Civil Session, Superior Court, Lawrence on December 3, 1956. RELEASE TO BE SIGNED BY BOARD: A letter received from Atty. Arthur A. Thomson relative to the a¢cident in Andover on December 28, 1953 involving a truck owned by the town and operated by William B. Dnffy, ad ~vising that the damage occasioned to the truck was in the sum of $275.20. After the institution of suit, a final settlement was made for the total amount due as listed. Amlease was enclosed for the signatures of the board to be signed and returned to Atty..~homson~. The Board voted unanimously ko sign the release. DEPT. OF PUBLIC WORKS: NotiCe received that the Commissioners voted to approve as of October 24, 1956 the work done by this board under Chapter 90 in the maintenance of Chapter 90 roads under Contract 16557, dated September 4,'1956. HIGH JOHNSON/SCHOOL BUILDING A letter was received from Harold R..Lynch relative to the condition of the old Johnson High School and requestimg that it be put back into proper condition and that the police give adequate pro~ection, to secure this property from destruction.' The Board voted to s nd a copy~ this letter to the School Committee and to send a letter to the Chief of Police to request that his men check this location routinely especially in view of the number of broken windows. 'PLANNING BOARD -re LITTLE RED SCHOOLHOUSE: A letter received from the Planning Board relative to the permit issued to the Little Red Schoolhouse by the building inspector for an addition. The letter refferred to the new zoning by-law which now awaits the approval of the Attornay General and until this approved, they believe that the conditions and regulations of the existing by-law should prevail. No a ction~as taken at this time but the board will send a reply at a later date. CIVIZ SERVICE REQUEST FOR LEAVE OF ABSENCE: Everett Woodhouse requested the board to contact Civil Service to see if he can have an additional three months leave of absence fromhis duties as police officer. He has been granted a three months leave by the Board and this expires on December 15, 1956 so he would like another three months to try out his new position. The Board vo~ed to make this request ~o the Director of Civil Service. PLANNING BOARD: Members of the Planning Board came before the board and discussed the issuance of building permits. Ralph Finck suggested that the Board ask the Building ZUspec~or to give a waiting period of seven days before issuing the permit and that would give the Board of Appeals and the Planning Board au opportunity ~o check the application to see if it conforms with the by-laws. Mr. Kirk stated tha~ he is disturbed about the building inspector giving oum permits and it is a serious situation. He discussed this with Mr. Lawlor some timesgo and suggested that he make sure he has a plot plan and knows where the lot bounds are before he issues a permit, ~. Nicetta stated that it has been customary to furnish plot plans to the Board of Appeals and he,doesn't feel that a seven day period would affect anyone.
