The regular weeklymaeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:30 P.M. with all
members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved.
LAWRENCE ELECTRIC COi,~ANY HEARING:
A hearingw~s held on the petition of this company for permission to locate poles,
wires and fixtures including necessary fixtures on the westerly side of Court Street
near the northerly line of Academy Road, 1 pole; and on the easterly side of Court
Street from a point approximately 131 feet northerly from Academy Road, northerly,
3 poles. No opposition was presented and the board vo~ed unanimously to grant this
permission.
CIVIL DEFENSE:
A letter was received from Dewey A. Dyer, Director relative to Public law 655 which
provides ~or the acquisition by request of the Civil Seri"ice Director for certain
surplus items. He enclosed forms CDA19t6 to be signed by the board so that he could
forward them to the proper Civil Defense 9fficers. He may be able to get a large
gas driven auxiliary ~nerator big enough to power the entire town building, fire
station, and town yard area. The Board felt that this was a very profitable ma~er
and signed the forms which.will be returned to Mr. Dyer.
DOG OFF~CERREPORT:~
A reportreceived from the Dog Officer for the year 1956 starting April 1 through
December 31, 1956. The report was accepted bythe Selectm~en
AIRPORT COMMISSION:
The board received an invitation to attend a dinner meeting on January 10,
a~ the Yankee Doodle. The board voted ~o accept the invitation and so notify the
Secretary, Melvin S. Kirkman.
CIVIL SERVICE:
A letter of resignation was received from Everett R. Woodhouse as patrolman in the
Police Department, effective as of December 19, 1956. The Board voted to accep~
the resingation aud to send a letter of commendation to ~r. Woodhouse for his
excellent service in the Department. The board also voted to send in a ~ermination
notice on Mr. Woodhouse and at the same time request a list of eligibles for the
position of permanen~ patrolman.
SEWAGE DISPOS.~L PROBLEM:
A letter received from Ernest F' Romano, with respect ~o the Pellegrino problem At
Pleasant Street. Re stated in his letter that the sewage disposal system would have
to be uncovered in order to determine the present condition of the system. Later
when a visit was made, Mr. Pellegrino was unable to do any digging because of the
ground conditions. Mr. Romano felt that no recommendations can be made ,until such
as the system.is exposed and the reason for its purported failure is determined. He
,will be glad to cooperate with~. Pellegrino in an~way possible.
CITY COUNCIL. LAWrENCE
Notice received that a public.hearing will be held on January 26, 1946 on the
of Gertrude and Ellen Driscoll for a change in zoni~uE classification of a parcel
of land.situated on the easterly side of ~inthrop Ave. and extending northerly 435
feet more or less from the Shawsheen River from existing B-1 Residential District
to Local~Business District.
IDEAL MUTUALINSURANCE COMPANY:
~ certificate of Insurance was received from this company referring to the erection
and maintenance of signs by the General I ce Cream Division ~n the Commonwealth
of Mass. including the town of North Andover. Mr. Kirk requested that we send a
asking for information as to any permits applied for and where the signs are to be
erected.
DIVISION OF CIVIl SER%~CE:
Notice received that the Welfare Compensation Board has approved the establishment
salary ranges as shownon the attached shee~ for positions relative to positions in
the various categories. No action was taken at this time bur Mr. Kirk inquired if
the agent and social worker were below the maximum. Perhaps some action will be
after the annual ~own meeting.
