HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-02-18277' FEBRUARY 18, 1957 The regular weekly meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held at 7:30 P. M. with all members present. Weekly bills and payrolls were approved. Revolver Permit Robert' H. Lange appeared before the Board in referrence to his application for a revolver or pistol permit. The Board unanimously voted that permission be granted Robert H. Lange. SPECIAL TOWN MEETING Mr. Edward Greenwood appeared before the Board to request a Special Town meeting be called immediately folluwing the Annual Town Meeting, March 16, 1957. Mr. Kirk made a motion that the Borad csd~l a Suecial Town meeting to act on the two articles on Sodium Fluride,'provided t~at are in good form. Mr. Broadhead seconded the motion. The Board unanimously voted to call a Special Town Meeeting to immediately follow the Annual Town Meeting, March 16, 1957 to ac~ on the followin~ articles: ~rticle 1. To see if the town will vote to instruct the Board of Public Works ~o cease putting Sodium Fluoride in~e water supply. Petition Edward Ri Greenwood and others. Article 2. To see if the town will vo~e ~o raise and appropriate or transfer from available funds a sufficient sum.o£ money for the School Department and the Board of Health to provide Sodium Fluoride on an individual basis to the children of North Andover whose parents approve such treatment. Petition Edward R. Greenwood and others. Mr. Broadhead made a motion to open the Warrant at 7:36 for the insertion of the mwo articles on Sodium Fluoride. Mr. Kirk seconded the motion. It was a unanimous vote. The Warrant was closed at 7:37 _~ CLOSE ~TOWN BUILDING Feb. 23. The Board unanimouslyvoted to close the Town Building on Saturday, Feb. 23 to give the Town employees a long weekend, with the understanding the heads of each department use their o%mx discretion. SNOW REMOVALEMGERGENCY- Authorization ,Received a letter from Mr. Dine, Director of Accounts gi~ing authority for the payment of an amount not exceeding $4,841.82 forthe snow removal due to the emergency. LAND TAKING Received a letter from Atty. Ralph Finck representing Antonio Colizzi in referrence ~o the land taking on Mewitt Ave. The Board unanimously voted to refer this letter ~o Judge Arthur A. Thomson for counsel. ~POLICE OFFICERS - Vacation Cheil McKee informed the Board he felt the Officers of the Police Department with 25years of service or more should receive an extra two weeks vacation. The Board unanimously voted that Police Officers obtsining twenty-five years of permanent service shall be eligible ~o an extra two weeks vacation per year." DRAINAGE CONDITION ON 0SGOOD ST. It was brought to the Boards attention that there is a very bad drainage condition on Osgood St. near the New Pumping Station. Th~ Board decided to send a letter to the New England Tel. & Tel. Co. ~o ask them to investigate the condition of their manhole in that area, as they felt this maybe the cause of the faulty drainage condition. NOTICE OF HEARING, D.P.U. The Department of Public Utilities will hold a public hearing at 166 State Rouse Boston on Ma~ch~4, 1957 at lO:O0 A.M. on the petition of the Lawrence Electric Co. The Board has already gone on recorda nd the proper authorities notified that the Board does not oppose. GASOLINE STORAGE - ~3PLICATION Received two applications for licenses to store an additional 5,000 gallons of gasoline at each of the following locations, 161~ Osgood St. and ?7 Main St, ~y the Gulf Oil Co. Mr. Finneran made a motion that a hearing be called March 4, 1957 at 8:15 P.M. Mr. Kirk seconded the motion and it was a unanimous vote.
