imously granted.
MEMORIAL DAY
Members of the V. P. W. appeared before the Board for approval of a Transfer
Request from the Reserve Fund. ~125.00 was requested due to additional expenses
(mainly feeding the Ft. De~ans contingent) involved in the Memorial Day Parade
and Exercises. Mr. Finneran motioned the request he sent to the Advisory Board
and Mr. Sutcltffe seconded the motion which was followed by anunanimous vote.
SPECIAL TOWN MEETING
Mr. appeared before the
Board ~wtth a petition of 200 names for the purpose of cs.lling a special ~Town-
Meeting to see if the Town will ex~end the sewer system on Harwood Street app-
roximately one hundred and sixty feet from Massachusetts Avenue. The petition
was referred to the Board of Registrars and was shortly returned by J. Lyons
as a verified list of names. The Board of Selectmen then opened the warrant to
insert the article and also inserted the School Commttte article on wages held
back from certain 'school teachers. The warrant was then closed with a unanimous
vote and ~ 20, 1957 at 7:30 P.M. was set as the time and' date of the next
Special Town-Meeting.
Dale Street Hearing
A few residents of Dale Street appeared before the Board for a hearing on the
land-takings on Dale Street. An engineer from the County Office was present .to
show and descr~he the plans to the interested residents. The Lewis family
appeared to be the onl~ objectors of the plans, claiming they would lose a
sizeable amount of their pasture land. Mr. Frank Cashman pointed out that the
~molak and Rea families would lose the most land, and that ~hey were notin ob-
Jection. Mr. Finck suggested that action should take place as soon as possible if
they wanted the new road this year. The Lewis fa~ stated that they would like
two or three ~ays in which to think it over. Ail other residents present said that
they would be willing to sign a release on the land takLngs.
SEALER OF WEIGHTS
A letter from John P. McBride, Director of Standards was read by Mr. Finck.- He,
requested that the Board advise former Sealer of Weights & Measures, Robert Turner
to sub~it his annual report to the State Bureau of Standards. A report that was
due the first of the year. The Board voted unanimousl~ to request t~at Mr. Turner
comply with the Law and file his report. That he also file a duplicate of his
report in this office by Nay 6, 1957~
LOAM REMOVAL
2he Board received a letter from Chief 2~lfred H. McKee on the removal of 1°am
from the town sauitatiom site. Chairman Finck stated we were allread~ acquainted
with the information in the letter and it was voted to refer the matter to the
police d~partmemt for further information.
COMPLAINT
A letter of complaiut from Rev. Ernest H. MacDonald concerning the removal' of his
waste-container by the highway department workers .was referred to the Highway Dep't.
POLE IDCATION
A petition for Joint pole locations was received by the Board, an~ a hearing was
set for Nay 13, 1957. This pe~itiem 'is by the Lawrence Electric Co. and the New
England Tel. & Tel. Co.
ESTn~ATE
Mr. Brasseur, Engineer, appeared before the Board per request, to discuss the.
Pleasant Street drainage project approved at :the March 16, town meeting. He
estimated the cost would be approximately $1,627.00.
Contract
A contract to ~lean the Town Building window~ inside and outside was given to the
City Window Olea~ers on their bid of $4~.00.
REQUEST
Mr. ~utcliffe stated that he had received a request for a street Light to be in-
stalled on pole #2 on Tyler Rd. The Board voted that a letter be sent to Mr.
Frost of the Zawrence Electric Co. on the .above request. It was suggested that
the letter contain a request for illumination of all fire-alarm boxes in town.
Mr. Sutcliffe mentioned a complaint of overhanging shrubbery on the corner of
Third Street and Middlesex Street was blocking the sidewalk and creating a blind
