POLICE DEPARTMENT The Board directed a letter be sent to Police Chief Alfred 'H. McKee and the three PoLice Seargents, requesting that they meet with the Board of Selectmen on next Monday night at 9:00 P.M. to discuss various matters. The Board voted to hold a hearing in the Selectmens Office next Monday night'at 8:00 P.M. with Mr. George Hill of the Boston & Maine and interested residents of the North Main Street R. R. Crossing. Town Counsel Motion was made and seconded that Judge Thompson be retained as counsel for the Town on the Desrossiers matter and to secure the deed on the precinct 2 play- ground. Ma~6, 1957 The Board of Selectmen met on this Monds~ evening with ~]l members present ~d Chairman Finck presiding. The weekly warrant of aklaries and bills was approved end signed by the Board. GA~0LINE STORAGE An application for storage of gasoline by the Davis & Furber Macb4ne CO. was unanimously approved. PETITION FOR ~POLE LOCATION A petition for a Joint pole location by the Lawrence Electric Co. n-~ the New Eagland Tel. & .Tel~ Co. was unanimously approved by the Board. HEARING ON ~. & M. R.R. PETITION Mr. George Hi21 and a company engineer representing the Boston & Maine R. R. appeared before the Board along with a few interested residents of Ashl~-d St. for~ a hearing bnfthe ~oposed.closing of the North Main Street R. R. Crossing by the Boston & N~t-e Railroad. Discussion took place on t~.e matter of the fire trucks being able to make the sharp turn at the corner of'Sutton St. and Ashland St., and the time element involved. Nr. McCarth7 of Ashland St, stated the ultimate protection of that area 'from fire was one of his chief concer~s. It was stated by Nr. F~I~ that he had discussed the idea with the fire chief and was told the loss of time due to the cloa~ of the crossing would amount to approximately foA-~y.five second=. Mr. Carl Thomas claimed he had Lived on $s~ln~d Street 'for. twentY-seven years and Would like to see the cross~-g closed as it is a very ?n-ger. ous. one. C/~wman Finck asked what exactly the B. & N. wanted from the Board on this matter. Mr. Nf~1 requested that the Board of Selectmen advise the Boston & ~ P~l~oad that the town of North Andover has no objection to the closing of the North Main Street R. R. Crossing. Mr. Finck said the Boax~ would discuss the matter further and if a decision was reached this evening Mr. Hill would hear fr~m the Board. JUROR Town Clerk, John Lyons appeared for the drawing of a Juror for the Superior Civil Court;, Mr. Harold':Ackroyd of Marblehead Street was drawn as a.new Jur$r to serwe in Newb~rt on June ~, 1957. Permission to pass through North Andover was granted and a notice wasdtrectedto the PoLice Chief to conduct traffic on tha~ ds~from Turnpike Street toWilsons Corner.
