SEALER OF WEIGHTS ~D MEASURES REPORT The Board directed that a letter be sent to State Division of Standards inquiring if the former Sealer of Weights, Robert Turner has as yet sent in his report. Mr. Turner did not appear before the Board this evening with his report as was re- quested. A letter was directed to R~v. MacDonald of ~arold Street ' suggesting that he purchase a new waste container of the same type and price as was taken in error by the Highws~ Department workers when collecting waste, and m-~ the b~ to the Board of Selectmen REQUEST TRANSFER FR~ THE RESERVE FUND The Board of Selectaon voted to request a transfer from the reserve i~nd to cover the hourly wages of their executive secretary, v.~an C. McDonald. May l3, 1957 The Board of Selectmen met on this Monday evening with all members present and ~ith Chatrm,m P~lph E. Finck presiding. The Weekly Warrant was approved and~signed by the members of the Board. JOINT POLE LOCATION Petition'for a Joint pole location by the New England Tel. &,Tel. 'C~. a~i the La~rence Electric Co. was granted u~ously by the Board of Selectmen. NORTH HAIN.STRE2T R. R. C~OSSING Mr. NcCarth~ appeared'before the Board with a petition of thirty-two names of residents of the North Main Street area who are in objection to the closing of'~' the Roston & ~e R. R. Crossing. Chair.~ Finck told Mr. McCarth7 that the Board would take the petition under consideration when m~g a decision on .the Crossing. MEETING WITH POLICE DEPARTMENT PoLice Chief ~/fred R. McKee and Seargonts Fleming,Doane23~V, and Hilton, appeared before the Board for a scheduled meeting. Hr~ Finneran mentioned a policy'.'of ccnsistancy in giving tickets to ~]~ violators should exist. Sgt, Fleming Snggeste'd a. public parking area might help to keep the shoppers 'in town. Sgt. Rhlton stated he didn,t think the parking conditions on.F~ .Street ha~ as yet become aserious problem. Chairman Finck referred to complaints from'Waverly Road, Sutton Street and I~arblehead Street on traffic and parking, conditions. It was voted to issue pistol permits to .all police officers at no fee. Discussion took place on the North ~ Street P~oad Crossing.and Chief McKee suggested a. traffic plan be instigated rather than close the road. It was suggested this land might be of value to the town in the future, and the closing of the road would prevent future access to the crossing. The Board voted to sen~ a. letter of request to the Lawrence Director of Public Safety for a traffic restriction of parking only on the right side of. Merrimack Street from the North Andover line to the Massachusetts Street p~wa~ Co. It was suggested this would help to alleviate present traffic conditions along Sutton Street. A letter was also directed to the Boston & Maine ~oad requesting the eng,,neet of the ',train which stops in the North Andover Station at- ?:40 A.M. to pull his train off the Sutton Street Crossing when .boarding passengers. The Police Officers stated the pile-up of traffic .at this time was considerable. DAMON CLAIM The Board received a release ~form signed by Mr. Damon and a bill for ~35.00 which the Board voted to pa~, o~t of the Contingent Fund. HELFRITC~ ~ The Board voted to pa~ the Helfritch c~-~m when a signed release had been obtained INVITATION The Board voted to make every effort to attend the annuel convention banquet for the Lawrence Post Office Clerks. SPECIAL TOWNMEETING The Board voted to notify the Town Moderator, Arthur A. Thomson, of the Special TownMaeting to take place on Monda~ evening, Ma~ 20, 1957 at 7:30 P.M.
