HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-05-20May ~t~ 1957 ....... continued REBUILDING OF MIDDLESEX STREET The Beard directed a letter be sent to Ralph Brasseur, Engineer ix~uiring about the proceedings to date on the engineering pland for the rebuilding of Middlesex Street. 1957 ~e,Board of Selectmen met with all members present, and approved the Weekly WaxY. 00MPLA~NT A Complaint on the condition of Pleasant Street after excavation .by the Board of -PubLic Works and'the Highway Department was brought before the Board of Selectmen. It was voted that the Highway Department be notified of the condition as they had gsmimed the responsibility of repairing the ditch. HEARING The Board held a hearing on tha application of Mr. Peter Aziz for a town-~de J~nk'license at 142 Main Street. Mr. Miller was present as an abutter, and stated he had no objection pro~idsd Mr. Aziz refrained from making nsisesslca~g an~ un- loading in the early morning hours and late at might. Mr. Aziz agreed to conduct 'his work d~ring the business hours and the Board approved the application and issued the license at the usual fee. CML DEFENSE The Board met with Mr. Dyer on the Civil Defense progrem. Mr. Finck inquired of Mr'. Dyer' s working program between the heads of the local Civil Defense and the Police Department. Mr. Dyer admitted a misunderstanding with the Police Dep't. over equipment during the. recent emergenc~. Mr. Dyer SuggesteA it might be ad- visable to notify the various depa~.~ents of their standing under Civil Defense Auth- ority in case of emergency. Mr. Dyer also spoke of Civil Defense equipment as it Stands at the present time. Electric Co. Recom.m. endation Chairman Finck read a letter from. Mr. George Frost of the Lawrence Electric Co. concerning'our .request for a light on Tyler Rd., and lights at ~11 fire-alarm boxes. Mr.~ Finneran motioned that Mr. Frosts recommendation be adopted and Mr. Sutc~ econded'the motion. There was a ~nanimons vote. S~w~R OF WEIGHTS AND MEASURES A ~letter from Mr.'-John p. McBride, Director of Weights and Standards, indicated his. dePa~'~,ent had not yet received a repoZt from our former Sealer of Weights, 'Robert Turner. The Board directed that Mr. Turner be contacted again on the matter. ~LAWRENCE GAS CO. ~-PPLICATION ~n application of the Lawrence Gas Co. for permission to ~tall gas sex-~Ice at the Blue Fox Restaurant was unanimously approved. BRASSEUR LETTER Mr. Finck read a letter from Mr. Brasseur, engineer, stating that the eugineeri~g proceedings ~r Middlesex Street were still in progress. ADIr~$ORY BOA~D APPROVAL Mr. Charles Sttllwell ~f the Advisory Board returned the request for transfer from the Reserve Fund forms to the' Selectmen with signatures of approval by the majority of the Advisory ?o~rd. The request ~ms made by the Selectmen for the necessary amount of money to cover the payroll expense of the executive secretary. TOWN TREASURER Mr. Finck read a letter from Mr. James Maker, Town Treasurer, concerning the Town · Group Insurance Policy which will expire on July 1, 1~57. DEPARtmENT READS The Board voted unanimously to hold a meeting of ~1~ department heads on June 10, 1957 at the Fire Station Company R~mm. The Board expressed the desire to have the Advisory Board present. LETTER OF COMPLAINT ~ Ftnck read an unsigned letter of complaint to Ehief McKee and Sgt. Donnel3,y. The letter was considered unimportant since it was unsigned. Mr. Nanry zund, Mrs Marguerite Soucy and Mr. Ted Pheian of the Board of Assessors appeared before the Board to inqui~ if the town employees were to receive a raise in pay on the recommendation of the Sumner C.~-~m Ass., and if so, the tax rate would have to be adjusted accordingly, and that they would like to arrive at a definite rate
