NAMING OF NEWBRIDGE
Mr. Fiuneranmotioned ~hat the proposed new bridge from North Andover across the
Merrimack River be named the ',Monsignor Francis L. Shes Rridge,, Mr. Finck seconded
the motion and a maJorityvote ~cok place.
CeMPLAINT
Mr. Su~cliffe stated that he had received a complaint on the condition of the rem-~ns
of Mr. Louis A. McAloee's barn situate~ at the rear of his property on ~hird Street.
The Board voted that the matter be Z~ferred to Mr. Lawlor, Building Inspector for
investigation.
T~AFFZC LIGHTS
The Board directed that a letter be sent to the State Department of Public Works
requesting that Traffic Lights be installed at the corner ofWaverlyRoadund
Turnpike Street.
SURDIVI~ION BOND
The Board accepted and approved the Subdivision Bond of the Sutton Hill Co.
HEARING POSTPONED
A hearing onan application of Mr. Louis C. Fiori, 846 ~hastnut Street, North
Andover was postponed in order to define the zoning By-Laws of that area.

The Weekly Warrant was approved and signed with the exception of the Helfrich
Claim b*~ to be.held out until such time as a general release was signed by the
owner of the Helfrich car.
LAKESIDE AREA
Mr. Dully, Board of Public ~orks ~ud Dr. Nay, Board of Health, met with the Board
of'Selectmen for ~urther discussion of the I~keside area. It was agreed that in
spite of ar~ State approval of Mr. Colgates plans, the situation was st~l~ a mattar
for local d~cisiee.
TOWN G~_~AGE
Mr. Walter Stamp of the Highway Department appeared before the Board to discuss
the broEen doors and windows in the town ~arage. The Board agreed to inspect the
garage on Tuesday morning to devise a means of protecting this town property from

Mr.' Arthur Duucette o~ ~01 Prescott Street appeared before the Board to request
tbet the Emnitary-Fill area be opened one evening a week for the use of town
residents whose working hours make it impossible to make use of the area under
the present schedule. The Board directed a letter to the Highway Surveyor re-
questing that the Sanitary-Fi4ll Site be opened on Monday evenings free 6:00 P.M.

DOG OF~TCER
Mr. Domenic Giarruso, Dog Office~ requested permission from the Board to purchase
an animal moose to be used in the discharging of his duties as dog officer. The
Board voted approval of the purchase under the Dog Officer Appropriation.

The Board unanimonsly approved the V. F. W. Multiple Sclerosis Drive, a door to door
canvass to be held on Skmday, June 2, 1957from12:00 to 4:00 P.M.
BUILDING INSPECTOR
The Board directed a letter be sent to Mr. Lawlor, Building Inspector~ stating
information received in a letter free School Committee-man Mr. O'Brien requesting
information on a building-permit for the D~w elementary-school project.
CIVIL DEFENSE
The Board voted a meeting take place, ce June 3, 1957 with Nm. Dyer and Mr. Maker
concerning reimbursmant from the State for local expenses incurred during the
recent forest fire emergency.
The Board received an expiration notice from the Great Pond Insurance Agency on the
Fire Department Accident policy. The Board directed a letter be sent to Mr. Whipple

APPLICATION FOR INCORPORATION
The Board approved and signed an application for incorporation by George H. Barker, Jr.
which had Chief McKee's sd~ture of approval, .and directed the form be returned to
Mr. Edward J. Cronin, .Secretary of the Commonwealth.
LITTLE LEAGUE PARADE
~e Board of Selectmen approved the Booster Club request to hold a parade for the
opening of the Little League Season on June 2, 1957 at 1:30 P.M. from Jefferson
Sql,~e to Waverly Park. The Board directed a letter to Mr. Wfl~fan McEvoy, President,
stating that the Board will be pleased to take part in this affair.

TREE REMOVAL
A hearing was held on a petition for removal of a tree by Mrs. Hannah Pevine, 358
Sutton Street, North Andover. Tree Warden John Conners stated that aparently the
roots of the tree had entered the sewerage pipes and was causing a back-wash in
the Pevine ce11,~. He further stated that it was possible a cracked sewer pipe
had created this condition. Mr. Finneran motioned the tree be removed. Mr.
Sutcliffe requested approval of removal of this tree from Mr. Conners. Mr. Conners
Stated that he had presented the findings of his investigation and that it was up
to the Board of .Selectmen to approve or disapprove. ~b~m~dFimckdmentioned
it is customaz'y for the Tree Warden to make a recommendation of some sort. When it was
learned that the tree was psrt~ damaged by the hurricane, the Board voted unanim-
ously to have the tree removed.
FOREST ~FIRE
Mr. James Maker, ~reasurer, James Daw, Fire Chief, and Dewey Dyer, Civil Defense
Director, a~peared before the Board to discuss expenses incurred by the forest-fire
emergency. Chief Daw mentioned several expenses due his department. Cb~man
Finck explained that the State only wanted the total amount at present in order
to compile a state estimate for the purpose of reimbursement. Chief Daw stated
that $186.34 was due the Fire Department. Mr. Dyer s~ated that $263.66 was due the
North Andover Civil Defense. The Board voted that the total amounted to $350.00,
ami that the State Finance Director be notified of that amount.
FIRE DEPARTMENT
Chief Daw reported to the Board that his department has been render survey for the pes~
year and although the sur~ey is not completed, it has been some time since the Survey
Company has been around. He suggested that a letter from the Board of Selectmen
might help to clear up the matter. The Board voted u~tmously to communicate with
the New England Fire _rn~.. Ratir~ Essociation asking that the .survey be completed and
that a reco~endation then be sent to the Board.
TOWN TREASURER
James Maker, Treasurer, requested the Board' s approval to borrow money for Mr. D~ffy, s
Water Department Project. Mr. Maker stated~this would be necessary as the taxes
would be late in coming in this year due to the Charm Survey delaying the setting
of a tax rate. The Board voted unanimous approval.
BULEDING PERMIT
Mr. Lawlor appeared before the Board for a scheduled meeting, to discuss a building-
permit for the approved new elementary-school. The Board voted to submit an article
at the next Special Town Meeting making it possible for the Board of Selectmen to set
the building permit fee on all educational and municipal bn~at~gs. The Board stated
Mr. 0'Brien should be advised to. advertise for bids subject to the addition cfa
building permit fee.
BUILDING INSPECTOR CONGRATULATED
Cb~ ~man FLnck congratulated Mr. Lawlor, ~,t~ding Inepector, on his fifty years of
fine service in the Fire Department, and extended the Board' s best wishes for maz~
years of retirement. The Board voted that there be a record made of this very fine
occasion,
MCAL00NBARN
Mr. Sutcliffe asked Mr. Lawlor if he had investigated the complaint on Mr. McAloon's
Barn. Mr. Lawlor stated he had, and thatMr. McAloon would like to remove the remains
of this old barn if he could obtain a permit to build a new garage in its place. Mr.
