Mr. Guilmette could not attend the Wednesday meeting, he be asked to the next board
meeting of October 28, 1957 at 8:00 P.M.
STREET LIGHTING
The Board of Selectmen voted to request the Merrimack-Essex Electric Compar$, to survey
the corner of Bay State Road and Chickering Road for improved street lighting. Also to
inspect the corner of Academy Road and Osgood Street where existing very Iow street
light is continually broken by children, and to reco~end some improvement measure.
Also the same condition exists at the corner of Court Street and Academv Road.
THIRD STREET
The Board voted to contac.~ Mr. Brasseur concerning the completion of Third Street. Also
that the bill will not be paid to the Merrimack Paving Corporation until adjustments are
made on Middle~ex Street to property of Mr. Kaspar Kasparian and Mr. Anthon~ Gigalia.
SEALER OF EIGHTS
The Board voted approvsl of a request by }~. Dominic Bonanno, Sealer of Weights and
Measures for North A ndover, to work ~long with Mr. Newton Jones, Sealer of W~ights and
Measures for the town of Andover, testing oil trucks meters in the town of North Andover.
A letter on this matter was directed to Nr. Jones and a copy to Mr. Bonnano.
MINIATURE GOLF COURSE
The Board voted unanimously to grant a license to Mr. Schruender for his miniature golf
course, subject to certain restrictions anf regulations. The Board ~ announce said
restrictions at the nex~ board meeting. License will be held up uStil such time.
October 28, 1957
The Board of Selectmen met on this date with all members present and Chairman Finck
presiding. It was voted unanimously to sign the weekly warrant of payrolls and bi/is
payable. ~[r. Maker made his usual appearance in connection with this matter.
FIRE DW~PARTNENT
Mr. Daw appeared with a bill from thA Elm Construction Co. for work at the peat bog
fire last month. Mr, Daw protested that the bill was in excess and Mr. Finck suggested
an official from the Elm Construction Co. be requested to attend next meeting for an
explanation of the costs involved. The Board approved Ehief Daw' s request for .a trams-
fer of funds in order to pay his men for this work. Mr. Finneran asked if the land
involved had been left in satisfactory condition. Mr. Daw stated a ditch had been
dug approximately 500 ft. long and 5 ft. deep. Mr. Finneran asked if this condition
might create a hazard to children in the area, Chief Daw. stated there was a fence
around the area. ~r. Sutcliffe stated that the ditch should be filled in. Chief Daw
agreed to get in touch with Ken Bsdley to partially fill in the ditch.
BOSTON&MAINE PETITION
The Board accepted an attested copy of vote of County Commissioners on the Boston &
Maine petition for abolition of the North Main Street Railroad Crossing. The pet-
ition is now before the Department of Public Utilities.
U. S. Post Office.
The Board accepted a letter from Postmaster Cahill acknowledging the board request
for .additionsl mail boxes at the corner of Second Street and Maple Avenue, and at
the corner of Greene and Parker Streets.
Anadditional letter from Postmaster Cahill invitedboard members to attend the
dedication exercised for the new North Andover Post Office on November 2, 1957 at
2:00 P.M. The Board agreed they wouldmake a sincere effort to atte nd.
MASS. CITIZEN'S COM~5TTEE
The board received a letter, Bulletin and blank petition from the Mass. Citizens
Committee concerning the State Disdbility Pension System with proposed adjustment
measures.
STORAGE APPLICATION
An applicationbyDavis &Furber Machine Co. to store inflsm~able fluids was viewed
by the board. A hearing was set for Friday afternoon, November 8 at 3:00 P.M.
