TREE REMOVAL Tree Warden John J. Conners was present to recommend that Mr. Robert McCullum's, High Street, petition for the removal of one tree be granted. The board voted unanimously to approve the removal of the tree. STREET LIGHTING The Board recommended that the Nerrimack-Essex Electric Company be requested to surFey Bradstreet Street for improved street lighting. POLE LOCATION At a ~hearing set for this time, the Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to grant the petition of New England Tel. & Tel Co. & the Merrimack-Essex Electric Company for a Joint pole locatihn at Andover Street, Concord Street and Barker Street. LAWRENCE DUNP Chairman Fimck read a letter from Alderman Guflmette stating that he would not appear at tonights board meeting as scheduled. Mr. Guilmette stated he had bean advised by the Lawrence City Soliciter not to appear. Mr. Finck stated that upon receipt of Mr. Gutlmettets letter, he had contacted Mr. Merrill, State Sanitary Engineer, who is willing to calla public hearing in North Andover, under Chapter 23_l, Section 158 of the General Laws. The date of hearing will be named in the near future. ROUTE 110 Mr. Ftnck read a notice of meeting on Monday, November 25, 1957, at 11:O0 A.M. from Commissioner DiNatale, Department of Public Works, for the purpose of reviewing the basic study and location of Route 116. The board stated that the town would definitely be represented by the board at this meeting. INDUSTRIAL C~MITTEE Mr. PLuck read letters from Mr. Roland R. Sisking, Chairman of the Committee for Industrial Development and Mr. John B. Narriman in regard to appointment to the Industrial Committee. Mr. Harriman was unable to accept his appointment to this committee. The board will appoint a representative to this committee at a lmter -,~date. EASTERN MASS. ST. RAILWAY CO. The Board accepted a list of bus curtailments within North Andover from Nr. E. R. ' Withrow, Manager of Eastern Nass. St. Railway Co. LAWRENCE GAS C~PANY The board voted unanimously to grant permission to the Lawrence Gas Company to ~excavate ouMassachusetts Avenue for the purpose of installing gas service. POLICE APPOINTMENT Certification and report forms relative to requisition by the Board of Selectmen for one Police Sergeant and one Reserve Pa~roiman was received by the board from '~.~ Civil Service. Mr. Finneran asked if a formal letter was received from Chief McKee on the matter of a new police sergeant. He stated that he was completely una~r~re Of-any action pertaining to the naming of a new sergeant. Mr. Myron Lewis, retired -police officer, was present and stated the board must have an existing list of available men and requested the list be read. Mr. Finck read the names of Farnham, 'Sanborn and Lawlor. Mr. Finnerun stated he has not yet been convince~ of the need of a new sergeant. He stated he would like. the Chief of Police to come before the board to prove a need: is there. Mr. Finck stated the work is being done at I~tef EcKee's.~request and that he further intands to have him come before the board to prove the real necessity. Mr. Finck further stated he did not want Mr. Finneran to think that this was all a figment of imagination. Mr. Lewis stated a new sergeant would be a ~ig improvement in the efficiency of the Police~ Department. A meeting was arranged for Wednesday, November 20 at 3:00 P.M. Mr~ Lewis was thanked for ~'attendinE the meeting and for showing such interest. TO~N REPORTS Mr. Jndd of Spaulding-Moss appeared before the Board of Selectmen to discuss the printing of the Town Reports. He stated that the town could save considerable money by using the Spaulding Moss method of printing the reports. This would be a photographic method. Mr. Fianeran suggested an early date for the advertisement of bids and that the wording of said notice be prepared to read "eff-set or letter- press'l GREATER LAI~ENCE CITIZENS' CC~ITTEE FOR INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT Mr. O'~alley appeared before the board to discuss the purpose of the general meeting to be held next week for State Representatives and City Officials. he stated the need of state legislation to broaden the powers of the committee.
