AMERICAN LEGION BEACH
Chairman Finck mentioned it might be appropriate at this t'~ne to discuss with the
Board of Public Works and Mr. Walter Coreoran, Beach Supervisor, plans for the future
development of the American Legion Bathing Beach a~ Stevens Pond. The board agreed
that this should ~ake place at next meeting.
STREET LIGHTING:
The Selectmen accepted, unanimously, recommendation from Mr. Frost, Merrimack-Essex £
Electric. Company, that two 2500 lumen Lights be installed on Merrimack Street, North
Andover. Cost to the town: $56.00 per year.
BOARD OF ~SSESSORS
Mr. Finck read a letter from the Assessors in regard to taxes due on land formerly
owned by Mr. George Gage who states there was an agreement at the time of sale that
there would be no tax levied. The Assessors claim there is no such written agreement
and that they never heard of such. The Selectmen referred the letter to A~ty. Char~es
Twombly andadvised that he contact Atty. Arnold Salisbury on the matter.
S~EEETACCEPTANCE
An Article sponsored byLanson J. Hyde for acceptanc~of the extension of Sutton Hill
Road from its present accepted terminus a distance of 250 feet past land of Hyde
and Chaplain. The board referred the article ko the Planning Board for approval.

The Board of Selectmen met on this date with al/ members present and Chairman Ralph
E. Finck presiding. The Weekly Warrant for bills payable and payrolls was unanimously
approved and signed in the presence of Town Treasurer James J. Maker.
~JURC~ D~AWN
Town Clerk John J. Lyons appeared with the juror box and Mr. Finneran drew the
n~me of Daniel J. Olenio to serve as a traverse Juror at Salem Superior Court on
February 3~ 1958. Mr. :lenio resides at 1591 Osgood Street and operates a lunch
restaurant.
STREET LIGHTING
Recommendations from Merrimack-Essex Electric Company on requests for improved
street lighting at 223 Bradford Street and corner of Walnut Avenue, Hemlock Street
and~arker Streets were approved by the Selectmen.
GREATER LAWRENCE INDUSTRIAL CG~MITTEE
Chairman Finck read a letter from Mr. O'Malley of the Greater Lawrence Citizens'
Committee for' Industrial Development requesting that the board make two appointments
to ~the Steering Committee. This committee is comprised of two individuals from
each surrounding community who will work out a solid basis for the future development
of the Greater Lawrence Industrial program. The board stated they would make the
appointments at next meeting.
S~ERTAINMENTLICENSE
Application for sunday entertainment license by Anthony Rogers, Richlyn Club, Inc.,
was unanimouslyapproved by motion of Mr. Finneran secondedbyMr. Sutcliffe. This
was a renewal for one year with a fee of $50.00.
APPOINTMENT
Upon motion of Mr. Sutc].iffe seconded by Mr. Finneran and voted upon unanimously,
Fire Chief James Daw was reappointed EireWarden for a period of one year.
JOHNSON RIGH SCHOOL BUILDING
The board voiced disatiafaction over the fact that two weeks had elapsed and no work
had been started on the boarding ~tf~.of the old Johnson High School Building. Bid for the
work had been awarded to the Wright Contracting Co. of Needham. The board contacted
Mr. Wiight by phone and he promised to be on the Job tomorrow morning.
WATER SURPLUS (SURFACE)
Mr. Finck stated he had been called into the office on Sunday due to surplus surface
water conditions in town due ko three days of heavy rain and melting snow. Many people
requested their cellars be pumped uut and headquarters were set up in. the Selectmem's
Office in order to handle th~ situation. ~t~41 Defense making use of their telephone
communications system, Fire Department, Highway and Public V~e~ departments worked
in a combined effort relieve situation. The voted that all
