AMERICAN LEGION BEACH
Mr. Duffy, Superintendent of Public Works arrived per schedule to discuss improvements
to the American Legion Beach located at Stevens Pond, for the coming season. Mr. Duffy
stated his department will ask the town for $1700.00 for a new steel pier and that
the slated program he has mapped out should be satisfactory to the townspeople. The
board thanked Mr. Duffy for outlining his plans and stated it appeared the improvemants
would be satisfactory.

The Board of Selecumen met on this date with all members present and Chairman Finck
presiding.
The I~eekly Warrant for bills payable was approved and signed in the presente of
Town Treasurer James J. Maker. This included payrolls.
JUROR DRAWN
John Lyons, Town Clerk appeared for the drawing of a Juror for Salem Superior Court
(Civil), March 3, 1958. Mr. Sutcliffe drew the name of Mrs. Eleanor Fretwell, 330
Andover Street, a clerk in Sutton Mills.
CHAPTER ~0 CONTRACT
Chapter 90 contractno. 17560 covering work don in North Andover for the year 1958
was received by the board. The =ontract required signatures of the board and it
was decided that before signing said contract the engineers for the job should
be contacted to request a progress report on the workEd~ne~oDoDale Street to date.
CONFERENCE ON.~2~I-~GING
The Board receivedam invitation from Governor Foster Furcolo to attend a Conference
on the Aging at the Gardaer Auditorium, ~State House, February 8, 1958 at iO:3OA.M.'
The board stated they would consider attending said conference. Mr. Sutcliffe
s~ated he wouldlike to attend.
LA~tENCEGAS CG~PANY
Upon motion of Mr. Finneran seconded by Nr. Sutcliffe and voted upon unanimously,
the board granted permissionto the Lawrence Gas Company to excavate on Andover
Street for the purpose of repairing a gas main. Mr. William B. Duffy, Superintendent
of Public Works had previously approved the request.
STREET LIGHTZNG
Upon motion by Mr. Sutcliffe seconded by Mr. Finneranand followed by a unanimous vote
recommendations by Merrimack-EssexElectric Company for improved street lighting in the
vicinity of~the Bagallo residence on Bradford Street and in the vicinity of the Assix
residence on ~sgo~dPS~etu~ere accepted and approved.
DEPARTMENTCF PUBLIC UTILITIES
The board received a notice of Public Hearing fromthe Department of Public Utilities
to be held Fe%~uary 14, 1958 at lO:O0 A.M., Hearing Room, State House on the petition of
Merrimack-EssexElectric Company for authorization of the sale and issue of First
Mortgage Bonds.
DEPARTMENT CF PUBLIC UTILITIES
A copy o£ Department of Public Utilities order relative to petition of Merrimack-Essex
Electric Company that certain land in the Town of North Andover be made exempt from
town Zoning Laws was received by the board.

APPLICATION FOR TAXI LZCENSE
AppLication for a taxi license by Mr. William J. Beauchesen, 17Massachusetts Avenue,
was referred to the Board of Appeals for approval or disapproval of said location.
EXTENSION GFSUTTONHILLROAD
The board directed that a public hearing be held in the Selectmen's Office on
February 17, 1958 at 7:30 P.M. r'~lative to the adjudication of Sutton Hill Road as
a public way from its present terminus a distance of 250 feet past the land of Hyde
and Chaplain, and that said notice be advertised. Request for this extension is
cOntained in am article submitte~ to the warrant or the March 15, 1958 annual ~own
meeting. It was directed that the Highway Surveyor and Pl~nningBd. be advised.
