al, Essex Co~ty Superior Comrt #11759. The County Commissioners had been notified
on Nay 9, 1958 of this appointment by the board of Selectmen. Letter of this date
requests the. County Commissioners to make the appointment.
Nay 19, 1958 - Board of Selectmen met on this date. - All present.
JOINT POLE LOCATIONS
Upon motion of Mr. Finneran seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe and put to a unanimous vote
Merrimack-Essex Electric Co. and New England Tel. & Tel Co. were granted permission
for a Joint loeation of poles on Margate Road and Hillside Road.
AIRPORT COMM~SSION
Mr. Paul Greeleyappeared before the Board of Selectmen to discuss a system or method
of informing the board on airport matters. Mr. Sutcliffe suggested~oardwould be
satisfied as long as they received the information before reading it in the newspaper.
Mr. Greeley. suggested he&raft a report of dutiesofa liaison offic~ to the Selectmen
in respect to airport matters and meet with the board in the near future. Mr. Finck
stated particular location of the Dmsposed new hangar is dusturbing and requested Mr.
Greeley look into the possibility of the commission relocating the hangar as soon as
possible.
ST2EE~ I~GHTING
Recommendation f~om Merrimack-Essex Electric Co. for improved street lighting in the
vicinity of Paul Dyer residence on Appleton Street were unanimously approved by the ·
Board of Selectmen. It was suggested the company be requested to make a survey for
improved street lighting on Nargate Road in the vicinity of Thomas Guiquinta residence.
IA~E~CE NUNIOIPAL DUMP
Chairman Ralph E. Finck read a letter from X2~e~m~u Gerard Guilmette relative to
beard notification of fires at the Lawrence Dump. Mr. Guilmette thanked the board
for bringing the matter to his attention and stated he would do all in his power
to control these incindiery fires.
OFF-STREET PARKING PR~POSAL
C~airman Ftnck read letter from the School Committee and letter from the Nain Street
Merchants Association relative to the proposal of Bonmlli and Corradino for off-
street parking facilities at the rear of their property at 64 Main Street. The School
Committee stated their willingness to proceed with the proposal providing the parties
concerned c~n reach an amieable agreement. The Main Stree% Merchants Assoc. stated
their approval of the proposal and requested favorable consideration by the Select-
men. Chairman Finck stated under the statutes th~ town could not perform work ~on
private property and that hot-topping would have to be done by ~the property owners.
Mr. Finck stated perhaps a lease of the property by the town over a period of yea~.s
would take eare of the matter. Mr. Finneran suggested the petitioners should spell
out their proposeal as to bcund~es etc. Mr. Sutcliffe suggested Mr. Bonelli and Mr.
Corradino be called before the board ne~ Monday night to discuss the matter and tc
have the requirements of the law explained to them. This was agreed to unanimously.

STOP SIGNS
The board received approval of new isolated stop signs on Greene and Thir~ Streets
from the State Department of Public Works, TrafficeDivision, It was also suggested
that to legalize said stop signs, an amendment to the Traffic Rules and Orders be
published. Motion made by Mr. Finneran, seconded by Mr. Sutcliffe, unanimous vote,
that publication of amendment to Rules and Regulations take place.
APPOINTMENT- RESERVE PATROLMAN
After receip~ of Civil Service approval of board requisition to appoint a Reserve
Patrolman to fill the vacancy on the list created by the resignation of James
E. Fitzgerald, (due to his appointment to Regular Firefighter) the board proceeded
to appoint Mr. Edward J. Manning, motion of Mr. Finneran, seconded by~. Sutcliffe,
u~mnimousvote, the only name on the eligible list.
~ STREET LAND DAMAGE
Mr. Finck read a letter from Atty Harold Morley, Jr., To~ Counsel for land damage suits
on Dale Street, in reference to Evans vs County of Essex et al. Atty Finck explained
he had met with the County Commissioners last Friday and agreement was made that in the
future the Comr~ssioners would honor our requests for appointment.
BOC~TER CLUB
The Selectmau received au invitation from the Booster Club to the opening gsme and
observances of the 1958 Junior League Baseball season. The Board voted they would
make every effort to attend.
