B0~T~! &MAINERAILRCAD - Sutton Street Crossing
The Board of Selectmen accepted a letter from the Boston &Maine Railroad in
respect to faulty crossing gate and repair cf same on January 19, 1959.
M~IRIMACK ESSEX ELECTRIC COMPANY
The board-accepted notification by Merrimack-Essex Electric Co. of street lights
installed at corner of Main And Russell Streets.
GREATER LAWRENCE CG~NITTEE FOR INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT
The board accepted an invitation from the Greater Lawrence Committee for Indus-
trial Development to attend the annual dinner meeting January 29 at 7:00 P.M
at the Lanam Club, Andover.
SURVEY CG~TTEE - New Fire Station
Mr. Sutc~iffe motioned a letter ~ appreciation be sent the Committee appoint-
ed to make a survey on the recommendation of the Board of Fire Engineers
for a new Fire Station in the vicinity of the Old Center. The board
directed the committee be thanked for a wonderful Job and report.

The Board of Selectmen met on this date ~ith all members ~resent and~Chairman
Ralph E. Finck presiding. Meeting commenced at ?:30 P.M.
POLE LOCATION
A joint petition was filed with the Board of Selectmen for a transfer of exist-
ing pble locatins from NewEng!and TelJ & Tel.~ Co. to Merrimack-EssexElectric
Company. Mr. Finneran motioned permission be granted. Mr. Sutc!iffe seconded
the motion and the vote vms unanimous.
STREET LIGHTING
Chairman Finck read Merrimack-Easex Electric Col recommendatinns for ~mproved
street lighting in the vicinity of Dr. Eliam of Great Pond Road and #69 Milk
Street. Upon motion of Mr. Sutcliffe seconded by Mr. Finneran recommendation
for Milk Street was accepted and recommendation ~r Great Pond Road tabled
until such time as the electric company explains the need of two lights in
the area. The votewasunanimous. Theboarddirected a letter be sent
the electric company requesting an explanation for the Great Pond Road
recommendation.
FIREAP~ LI CENS~
First applications for license to carry firearms by ~[r. Janes Doran and }~.
Robert Nevins were approved by the board subject to approval of the Chief of
Police. The board received ~ritten p.e~ission from the parents of both
applicants because they were both over 18 but not yet 21 years of age.
G~APTER 90 ALLO~.~TS
The Departwmnt of Public Works notified the Board of Selectmen of tentative
1959 Chapter 90 a21otments for the To~m of North Andover. Dale Street shall
receive $13,000 from the State, $6,500 frc~ the Town and $6~%00 from t~m County.
Maintenance amounts to $1,000 from the State and 2,000 from the To~m. There
are no County allotments from the County on Maintenance.
~'SG{OOLZONE" SIGN REQUFST
Mrs. Larry Cadogan, Dale Street, requests the board place a "School Zone" si~
on Andover Street near the Frank2in School. The board advised thematter
be referred to the Police Department for proper action.
TRAFFIC - Great Pond Road & Osgood Street
The board received a letter from Mr4 Fessenden Wilder of BroSks SchCol in
respect to dangerous traffic conditions existing at the corner of Greet Pond
Road and Osgood Street and requesting the board take action to eliminate the
hazards. Chairman Finck read the letter and referred to the considerable
correspondence of the board to the Department of Public Works and the D.P.W.
letter stating well founded objections to the installation of signals under
the present layout of the Highway but that a study was being made for a re-
location of the intersection. Upon motion of M~. Sutcliffe seconded by )~.
Ftnneran and voted unanimous, the board directed a letter be sent to Mr.
Wilder including copies of board correspondence with the D.P.W. and that a
letter be sent to the Police Department asking a traffic officer be placed
at said intersection when the flow of traffic is heavy in this area. Mr.
Finneran motioned a letter be sent to the Department of Public Works re-
questing early consideration of this matter and copy of Mr. Wilder letter
be ~nclosed. Mr. Sutcliffe seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.
