present; Selectman Arthur P. Kirk, William B. Duffy, Jr. and Chairman William A. Finneran
presiding. The Warrant was approved as submitted.
SX~LEM STREET-CHE~TER 90 RECONST~CTION:
James R. Carlin, County Engineer, sent a letter enclosing prints of Salem Street, showing
in red, the new street lines proposed for the Chapter 90 work planned for this year. He
stated that several small takings would be required from abutting owners. He suggested
that the abutting owners be invited to a meeting with the Board to explaing the proposed
work. A representative from the County Engineer's office and the state Chapter DPW 90
office would be present at said meeting to explain the changes that would have to be
made. Mr. Carlin also stated that an appraiser would have to be appointed to estimate
the damages caused by this layout. Chairman Finneran stated that he had committed himself
to the complete reconstruction of Salem Street and the Highway Surveyor was agreed.
After some discussion wherein Mr. Duffy stated that he still thought Chapter 90 funds
could be better used on other streets in need of reconstruction, Selectman Kirk made a
motion that Salem Street be reconstructed or layed out from Boxford Streem to the
Middleton line. Mr. Duffy seconded the momion and the vote was unanimous.
Mr. Kirk then~ made a motion that a meeting be arranged am which the abutters, Highway
/SurVeyor, County and State officials and the Selectmen could discuss the necessary land
takin~ for the pro~ect, which was seconded by Mr. Duffy. It was agreed that Chairman
Finneran set up the proposed meeting.
iCHAPTER 90 -SALEM ST. PETI.TION:
A formal petition was submatted addressed ~o the County Commissioners for expediting
of the Salem Street work which was signed by Selectmen Kirk and F inneran. The petition,
~with a $5.00 check for filing fee, was to be sent to the Commissioners.
PAR SITE:
A study report from ~ommissioner Brownell of the Dept. of Natural Resources on the PAR
site was received by the Board. Chairman F inneran commented that he was vitally in-~
terested in the site being converted into a recreation area. The matter was turned over
to Selectman Duffy for action.
INSURANCE:
An assigned risk report from the insurance company was referred mo P~chard Lafond for
a report.
NOTIC~S' ~WECEIVED:
Copy of letter sent to all School Committees from Mayor of Attleboro.
Coming events of interest from Nass. Selectmen's Asso~iation.

BOARD OF TRADE:
A letter from the above-named to the Board registered their opposition to Article 2§I
in the Town Meeting Warrant which amends Article III o~ the Towns General By-Laws on the
clearing of ice and snow. The letter was referred to the sponsors of said Article,
Highway Surveyor and Chief Lawlor.
NO PARKING BAN:
Selectman Kirk made a motion which was seconded that the No Parking Ban be lifted with
the provision it would automatically go back on in case of a late snow storm.
GII~ SCOUTS:
Six girl scouts and their leader attended the Selectmen's meeting in recognition of Girl
Scout week. Chariman Finneran read the Proclamation designating the week as"Girl Scout"
week. Jerry Rosen, Town Reporter, took their pictures sitting in the Board's chairs.
COMPLAINT:
Paul Leves~ue, 244 Main Street, appeared before the Board requesting advice on the status
of his employment in the Highway Dept. He stated that he had been verified by Civil Ser-
vice for temporary six months employment, as a laborer. His complaint was that he would
and has been getting only one-half da~s'work, mwo or three days a week. When asked by the
Boa.' ~ if he had consulted the Town Union, he replied that they cannot help him until he
has had three month's steady employment. He started work December 24th, and would very
much like to have a full week's salary. Selectman Kirk stated that as the Highway Surveyor
was an elected official incharge of the Highway Dept., the Board had no authority mo ran
said Highway Dept. Chairman Finneran was voted to send a letter to Mr. Nicetta requesting
the status of Mr. Levesque's employment at the present time and to submit a full report to
.the Board as soon as possible. ~
