Conference on Drug abuse, Merrimack College, April 29, 1970. Chairman Finneran to attend. Street Acceptance memo. Referred to Town Counsel and Planning Board. Memo on collection of Property Taxes from Mass. Selectmen's Association. SCHOOL BOYS - COI~ENDATION: A letter from Mrs. Richard Bates, 440 Main Street, highly commended the boys from Brook's School for their efforts to keep the shores of Lake Cochichewick clean. The Board voted to advise Chief Lawlor to erect signs indicating fines for littering in the Lake area and repor~ on smme. META CONTRACT: A letter, sent to Town Counsel, was received by the Board from acting General Counsel of the MBTA requesting vote of Town Meeting and advice con6erning renewal of contract. The Board voted to have copy of vote sent,.as requested, and to have MBTA send proper contract for re- newal of train passenger service. A copy of the letter will be sent to Town Counsel. ROYAL CREST APT. DRAINAGE: Highway Surveyor, N. Nicetta, sent a letter re the proposed drainage on Tmrnpike Street ex- pressing his approval if cost and maintenance was borne by Mr. Flatley. When work is ~ompleted and during installation, it must be inspected bythe Highway Dept. The installation mus~ be done according to the requirements of the Highway Dept. Nary Spero complaint: Mr. Nicetta stated in his letter that pictures had been taken of this and had been sent to Town Counsel. Mrs. Spero climed she had injured her leg due to e holes in street in front of her house. Mrs. Peter Palmese: Highway Surveyor stated in letter that drainage problem exists, said drainage problem should be corrected by developer according to Planning Board covenant. MCCABE COMPLAINT: SMITH T~JCKING: The Board received a report from C. Fester, Building Inspector, on the above-named complaint. Mr. Foster stated that his investigation showed that, according to the Police Dept.,many pieces of equipment had been store alonside of the road. The' Police Dept. stated that re= cently there had been only one truck parked there at night. Materials such as gravel, stone, etc., were. s~ill piled beside the road. Mr. Foster has been unsuccessful in his attempts to contact Mr. Smith to find ou~ what his plans were to clean up this area. Mr. Foster also s~tated that, to his knowledge, his department had no jurisdiction over the streets of the Town and that any further action should come from the Selectmen or the proper department. The Board voted to request Mr. Foster mo appear at the next Selectmen's meeting with a more detailed r~eport on the matter. Town Counsel will also be contacted to determine What dept. has Jurisdiction over commerolal v~hicle parking in a residential area. LOUIS SAUNDERS NEMORIAL: ... Zuill, Commander of the American Legion contained a proposal for a memorial for the late~ Louis Saunders in the femm on naming a plot or triangle in Town.for him. Board vo~ed to send a letter to Mr. Zuill stating they would be pleased to meet with a delegation from the Ame~i~am~ Legion and the V.F.W. to discuss the matter and to finalize a '.lasting and fitting memorial to Mr. Saunders. MClay s-Florist. AUCTIONEER: Stewart Wilson. Permission to hold an auction on Saturday, May 9, was given Sidney Rea, 922 Dale St. providing police officer was in attendance. MERRIMACK COLLEGE.LICENSE: The application of Merrimack College for a Special Win~ and Malt Beverage license was received from Town Counsel in proper form. The Special Club license, under G.L. Chapter 138, Sec. 14, to be served in the Tagastan Bldg.'(~'acul~y Dining ~m. and Lounge) on a temporary basis, w~s denied. Chairman Finneran stating that, in his opinion, he could not sanction granting license; it was not in the best interests of the Town, made a motion mo deriv. Selectman Duffy, Jr. seconded the motion so a vote could be taken.' Mr. Kirk vgted to den~. Mr. Duffy then voted mo ~rant the license. This actionmade a majority vote of 2 to deny and 1 mo award. Chairman Kirk stated that he would so notify Colonel Brown of Merrimack College.
