The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with all members pres-
ent...Selectmen Kirk and Duffy, Jr. with Chairman Finneran presiding. Minutes and warrant
were approved as submitted.'
HEARING:
A hearing on a petition to locate one Joint pole on Moody Street resulted in a postponement,
of an approval to allow Mr. Casey to show an abutter just where the pole would be located.
The matter was tabled until notification from Mr. Casey.
JUROR:
Phylis Jackson, 18 WilliAms Street, Housewife, was drawn for Jury duty, September 21 sitting,
at Lawrence by SeI~ectman Dully. Donald Dufresne~ previously drawn for September 14 ~Jury duty,
a~ Salem, was excused due to the fact he will undergo heartsurgery on September~4. ~"
A~MENIAN CHURCH 8onsecration:
Chairman William A. F inneranwill represent the Board a~ the reception and consecration
of the new St. Gregory Armenian Apostolic Church at 158 Main St., N.A. Sept. 20.
TOWN MEETINGMATERIAL:
Mrs. John T. Lynch, 1440 Salem Street, was advised by the Board that her request to purchase
a 'small lot of land, adjoining her property and owned by the Town, w6uld have to go through
the annn~l Town Meeting as an Article.
SPARE WOE{ERAPPOINTED:
Mrs. Winona Stzucinski, 460 Boxford Street, was appointed a Spare Worker for Precinct 41
Liaison Officers for the Lawrence Airpor~ Commission to be appointed was Zableduntil nexb
meeting.
PRECINCT LIST - 1~70-71
Precinct list of poll workers submitted by the Secretary was approved by the Board...
Appointment sheets for 155 workers were prepared, signed and sent out together with compiled
lists to the Wardens of each precinct, the Town Clerk, and the Chairman of the Democratic and
RepuBlican Committees.
MAS~. AVENUE ACCEPTANCE:
Aletter from J. Berkover advised the Board that repairs ~o Mass. Avenue, prior ~o the trans-
fer of this road'to the Town, had been completed by the DPW as requested by the Highway Survey-
or~' He requested that the Town initiate the final s~eps in the agreement for the transfer
of Mass. Ave. tb the Town ownership. He requested that the formal procedure, outlined by the
· D istrict'MaintenAnce Engineer, Mr. Charles W. Mason, on June 17, 1969, re the Town's
acceptance of Mass. Avenue be expedited at the Board's earliest convenience. The Board
referred the letter ~o the Highway Surveyor for his report and recommendations.
NIGHT P~RKING OF TRUCKS:
A letter from K. Krekorian, State Traf~icc Engineer, statedthat, in order to have his dept.
approve sub-section (b) of the traffic rules and regulations prbhihiting parking of trucks,
the sub-section (a) involving all vehicles would have ~o be submitted. The Board voted to
refer the matter to police chief, Joseph W. Lawlor and Town Counsel for advice.
A letter from Mr. Krekorian re the flashing, yellow warning light requested for the Board
for Salem Street, vicinity of the new fire station, advised the Board that the request was
under investmgation by his department.
MARBLEHEAD ST. R.R. CROSSING SIGNS:
A letter from the state Department of Public Utilities advised the Board that p~ope4 warring
signs had to be installed at the above-named crossing. The letter stated that the proper signs
could be requested from the B. & M. railroad. The Board voted to refer the matter to Town
Counsel for ad~ice on who was responsible for the installation of the warning signs.
R.R~ CROSSING REPAIRS:
A report on requested railroad crossing repairs in town was sent to the Board from the NBTA.
~he report was referred ~o the Highway Surveyor for proper action. Selectman Kirk noted that
th~ report stated that the Main Street crossing had been re.paved this year by ~he NBTA .....
which is incorre~t..~.the Town repaved the Main Street crossmng and Selectman Kmrk stated the
MBTA shodld be bmlled for %he expense of the repaying.
YOUTH~HOCKEY'LEAGUE:
A letter from a Pat Kilcourse advised the Board of a proposed Youth Hockey League to be s~art-
ed for boys from ages l0 to 13. The Board referred the letter to t~Recreational Council.
MATSES - NOTICE OF INTENT: STREET LIGHT SURVEYS:
The CharleaMatses Notice of Intent was tabled again until the next meeting.
Street Light s trveys were also tabled once more ~o enable Selectman Kirk to make~,~rther study
of same.
TOWN OF GRANBY ~ESOLUTION:
A letter from the Granby Board of Selectmen advised the Boarder their petitions to the General
Court" ' h
to respect t~ plmg t of the cities and towns by rejecting all legislation which would
place added costs, directly or indirectly, on the municipalitmes without providing for accepbance
or for funding by other than loca~ taxation." The Board voted to go on record as full supporters
of the above petition.
