Brian F. Sullivan from Gorham, N.H., will begin his duties on August 9, 1976. Mr. Sullivan was selected from rmmereus candidates By a 5-men committee seleCted by the Advisory Beard and the Selectmen. VETE PANS AGENT: The Selectmen appointed Chairman Joseph A. Guthrie to be Acting Veterans Agent to fill vacancy caus.ed by the untimely death of Bernard Bingham, ~ho had submitted his resignation tm weeks previously.after 29 years of service to the town. Mr. Bingham ms a gentleman, a compassionate and good friend to all who had the good fortune to know him. Despite .his physical handicap, confined to a wheelchair since his war service, Bernard Bingham always had a smile on his pleasant face a~t it has been a pleasure to have known him -~d a privil- ege to have been his friend. Applicatons are being received for the Veterans Agent position. Veterans Agents in Lewrence have offered their services and aid until an appoint-~ ment can be made. Appointments will be listed on separate page when completed. RECEI ¥~D: Letter of appreciation from Thomas Leavitt of the work dome by J~%iet Hoffard, Ceta w~rker during the past year at the museum. Letter from Ray State Gas Co. stating they would like to be notified when streets are going to be repaved in time to do any excavating for gas services. Copy given to H. Surveyor. Letter from Merrimack V-~ ey Planning Commission stating Commission has approved housing application for grant assistance. Notice of decision from Board of Appeals. Notice of an~,-~ meeting of Nass. League of Cities & Towns, Oct. 29-30, Bex~orongh. J.Guthrie and T. NcEvoy plan to attend. HIGHWAY SURVEYOR: Mr. Cyr came in to discuss several items with the Beard. Stated he wanted to hold up any action on pole petition locations received by the Beard from Mass. Elec. Co. or the telephone company because they hadn't remove some old poles he had requested be removed. Selectman Coady stated that he did net condone any form of ,,blackmail"...that if he had a c~mplaint with the utility companies, Mr. Cyr should contact them until his requests are met."Mr. Oyr seem to think the Selectmen should do his work for hi~. On other matters, he requested acquistion of land in the missile site area for a proposed disposal site. Selectmen will contact Town Counsel asking what steps have been taken to acquired needed 1~. Residents of the new town garage ares living on Park, Pleasant and branching streets presented the Beard with a petition to install proper drainage in that area. Mr. Cyr stated that the only harrier to its installation was Dr. Ceplikas who owns property on both sides of Lex- ington Street. When the Selectmen asked Cyr why Ceplikss objected to what would obviously be to his advantage Cyr replied that Dr. Ceplihas personally did net like. him. . The ~elec+.m-n voted to write Dr. Ceplikas requesting a meeting with him and a member of the Planning Beard sometime in August. LIST: SeleCtmen's ~ecretary submitted the aum,-~ Jury List with the request it remain open .for a~tionel names until the end of the week. It was so voted. Bu, ..~ING INSPECTOR: Letter from Bldg. Inspector advised Board that a basketball suppor~ ami basket, ereCted on Tyler Road is on town property and not on property of N. LaJarre. 'SeleCtmen have Jurisdiction to remove said structure if hoop is obnoxious to neighborhood and creates a safety problem. Board referred matt er to Chief Ia~or. CIA~I PROPE~Y REQUEST: Letter sent to Town Couxmel advising that the W~]li~ Ciampis are interested in acquiring a lot of land which abuts their property...lot is owned by the town, taken by tax foreclosure in 1941. Board requests advice on proper procedure in this matter. LICENSING COMMISSIONERS: Renewed: Special Taxi license to Rarbara Jolly, 100 Osgood St., N.A. Granted: 1-day beer license, Aug. 8, for N.A. Firefighters family picnic at Town Forest area. Denied: Peddler's license, town wide, 1~0 Sutton St., Ben Sweeney. Hearing set: Transfer of P~staurant, Ail Alcoholic license from Robert Began, Manager to Richard Garick, Manager from the Willows Racquet Club, Inc. to Cahoots, Inc. same premises, 815 Turnpike St. Hearing: July 19, 1976, 7:30 P.M.
