POLICE 0FFI~ER APPRECIATION:
A letter of appreciation and thanks to the police officers sent to the City cf Wohurn was
received by-the Beard. The aid rendered was during a recent city revolt. The Board
the Secretary to. ask Chief Lawlor for the names of the police_men involved so a letter of
appreciation could be sent to them.
DW.T~Q~ENOy PI~ENTION PROGRIIt:
A letter ~ received by Selectmen Guthrie acknowledging receipt of town's Delinquency
Prevention Program from the Dept. of Youth Services, Commissioner Jerome G. Niller, D.S.~.
The, proposal, compiled and sent by Selec+,.~ Guthrie, was referral, to Mr. Nathias O'Mallny
Chief of the State Bureau of Prevention. Commissioner Miller advised Mr. ~uthrie that
0'Nalley's office would be in +~uch with Mr. Guthrie in the very near future on the subtect
metter.
STREE2 LIGEr SURVEY:
A street light survey ~as received for Martin Avenue ang filed with others that were tabled .
Action will be taken on all surveys as soon as the Board receives the town-wide proposed
survey'being comPiled by the Ness. Electric Cc. which is due to he submitted this month.

department for 'further discussion. The Beard voted to send a letter to Nr. Norrison
a copy of Hr. Nicetta's letter.

FIATS BRIDGE ARFA COMPIAINT:
In.reply to the Board's inquiry about conditions in the Flats Bridge Area, Chief lawlor sent
a letter advising t~-~ard, that the Police early night shift-has been alerted to the,
'~ that illiegal perking will be dealt with accordingly.' As of Sept. 10,. all trash had been.
r~_ ~m~_ved asd he recommended a container for trash be set out by either the Park Department or '
Highway Dept. The Beard voted to send copy of the letter to the Public Works -~ Highway
requesting their co~nts on the metter; The Board also recommended that trash containers be'

Willie, Chaix~an of the Public Works. Dept. requesting ~ report .on th; Stevens
v~mt-~tam. A reply from the Public Works stated that~they have)their~dspartment~s responcibil
ity ~as to ~tntain the town's parks, for~the pleasure of its citizens. ~ that:it.~as..the
Police Dept~s responsibility to deter anY ~andalis~ or mischief in these facilities. A copy

Farkas Liceuse: George Farkas applied for renewal of his Class II license at station he
leased to Fiori, a need-car dealer and Westmore. He stated that Fiori and Westmore ~ould
operate the garage part of the station and that he would operate the second-hand car part
of the business, though he is now located at another garage on Sutton Street. The Board

The reg,,~.~r meeting of the Board of Selectmen 'was held on this date with all members present;
Selectmen Joseph A. Guthrie, William B. Duffy, Jr. with Chairman Ax~hur p. Kirk presiding.
The warrant ~as approved as submitted.
The Board approved the request s,~mittsd by ~rs. ~ar~ha Hananian~ 39 Sutton Place, for a
street light in that vicinity. A ~u~vey will be made by the electric company.

The Board received a letter from the School committee urging the installation of Rt' i25
sidewalks. On Sept~_m~er 17, Chairman Kirk dictated a letter to J. Borkovar, Dept. of Public
Works stating the Board had not received any progress report on the town's request'for . ·
traffic control and safety on Rt. 125. Mr. Kirk further stated that the subject matter ~as '
a serious situation in the co~m,~ ty and urged expedition of the requests. Copies were sent
to Patak, Hurrell, Lawlor, Garofoli, Haltmaier, Nicetta, Giammusso and D'Angelo.

Nary DeNa~ro, Brightwood Avenue, sent a letter to the Selectman, stated that her l~other's
lots ~ere too narrow to build on, therefore, she requested the abatement of the amount.paid
for sewerage on the land for the years 1~60 to 1969. The Board voted to send a letter to
the Board of Public ~orks, Board of Assessors and the Tax Collector asking for their co--ute
a-d advice on the subject matter of ~re. De,auto's letter, copies of ~hich ware enclosed.

FEDERAL GRA~TS TO PP~-VATE BUS COEPA~IES:
Frank Trombly of Trombly ~otor Coach Service appeared before the Board to discuss the new Proposal
of Federal funds to aid private bus franchises. After discussing the matter, he stated that he
thought it was a good opportunity to expand the bus service routes..The meeting concluded with his
announcement that. he would attend the coming he, ring on the matter and report to the Board in the
near future.
HANSON COMPLAINT-TELEPHONE POLE:
A copy of_~_~l~ttsr sent to telephone ccm~a~ manager, Charles Pepalia, from Kurt Banson request-
ing the removal of a telephone pole on ~dover Street whic2 Er. E~neon claimed was located in
a sPOt,~that~eatsd a dangerous, traffic hazard. Later reply from Mr. Pepalia stated that his
compen~ di~ink the pole was in a dangerous position. The Board sent correspondence to the
Chief of Police for his recommendation on the matter. Chief Lawlor stated that he Concurred
with Mr. Hanson, that the pole's location was detrimental to traffic safety, His letter was
enclosed with the Board's letter to Pepe2ia. End result: The telephone pole will be relocated.
