Daniel Carney, 437 Mass. Avenue was drawn for Jury duty at Salem Superior Criminal Court for
January 2, 1972 Sitting.
HEARING POSTPONED: .
per request of Jeremiah Casey, Rt. of Way Agent for New England Tel. · Tel Co., the hearing
date on petition to install 4 ducts on Charles Street was postponed from Dec. 11, 1972 to Jan-
uary 8, 1973.
CAMPION HALL:
A letter was received from William G. Guindon, S.J., Provincial of the Society of Jesus of
New England re the proposed sale of Campion Hall properties. This was an answer to the Board':
letter to Rev. Guindon expressing concern over the sale.
FLATLEY COVENANT:
A letter was received from Town Counsel re the Flatley covenant release request. Selectman Kirk
stated that he certainly would like the subject kept under review; the matter of adequate
drainage should be pursued. Mr. Kirk made a motion to have question referred to the Highway
Surveyor to enlighten the Board as to what steps have been taken to resolve the problem. He
also'made a motion not: to release the covenant until problem had been solved. It was so
voted. Jack Erle is to contact N. Nicetta.
TRANSPORTATION COORDINATOR COMMITTEE:
John Monterio appeared before the Board in~r~e~ard to an appointee to the above-named, committee.
Jack Erle'reminded the Board that he had./~$~dinted by the Selectmen as thei~ representative
to the Committee. The Board voted to have Jack Erle advise Richard Young, by letter, of the
appointment.
SNOW REMOVAL EMERGENCY:
Selectman Kirk made a motion to grant the Chairman the authority to authorize snow removal
emergencies, when requested by the Highway Surveyor. He also advised that the Highway Surveyor'
should contact the Advisory Board to. set aside a sum of money from the Reserve Fund to pay the
expenses of snow removal emergencies. Chairman Guthrie and Jack Erle will contact. Nicetta.
MASS. LEAGUE OF CITIES & TO~S:
The Board voted to renew membership in the above-named league, payment of dues to be expedited
-in January, 1973. Mr. Kirk will include the sum of $954.42 in the Selectmen's budget to pro-

The applic' tion for renewal of the Special Club license for Merrimack College was tabled until
Jack Erle recommends what fee should be charged after he has made inquiries of fees charged
other colleges.

The Board of Selectmen held their regular meeting on this date with all members present;
Selectmen Arthur P. Kirk, William!B. Duffy, Jr., Esq. with Chairman Joseph A. Guthrie presiding.
JUROR:
Richard Card, 114 Middlesex Street, was drawn for the January 8, 1973 Sitting, at. Salem.
POLE LOCATIONS:
The Board approved a petition for joint location of two existing poles on Lacey Street.
GAS EXCAVATIONS:
The Board approved a gas excavation petition on Merrimack Street and 250 Johnson Street to
repair gas mains.
ADM-ASST. SAI~RY INCREASE:
Letter from Town Counsel re the salary increase of the Administrative-Assistant,Jack Erle,
advised the Board that as the United States Department of Labor, Manpower Administration, had
submitted a definite ruling that the proposed increase must be Erant~d)~, the ~own is bound,
by said ruling, to pay the increase in salary. He suggested that the Selectmen reques~ the
Advisory Board for a transfer of the sum necessary from the Reserve Fund of 1972. After dis-
cussion of the matter, Chairman Duffy motioned that the Board re-submit request for the s~
needed from the Reserve Fund to the Advisory Board. It was so voted.
