HomeMy WebLinkAbout1973-05-02 Board of Selectmen MinutesThe Board of Selectmen held their regular meeting on this date at Stevens Memorial Library. Ail members were present; Selectmen Coad~nd Kirk with Chairman Guthrie presiding. The warrant and minutes were approved as submitted. SOLID WASTE: Letter received from President, Methusn Town Council calling atteation to a meeting to be held May 9, 1973, at 7:30 p.m. in Methuen Municipal Building regarding Camp Dresser & MoKee report on solid waste. All communities involved are invited to attend. Selectman John Coady will try to be presemt at the meeting. Highway Surveyor Oyr and Board cf Health member Scanlon will also be informed of the meeting. CHESTNUT STREE~: Letter from John M. Carey, 257 Chestnut Street was received. Mr. Carey complained of main- tenance procedures and re-topping efforts on Chestnut Street and Hillside Boad. Letter will be referred to Highway Surveyor with copy of transmittal letter to he sent to Mr. Carey. TOWN PICNIC AREA: A request was approved for the use of the Town Forest Picnic Area by MoGovern Associates on June 10th. APPOINTMENTS: The Board appointed John Dolan, a Special Police Officer and tM members for the Town Charter Study Committee: Donald Kierstead and Irene Doucette. BLOOD MOBILE: Notice of Blood Mobile, May 18th, at St. Paul's Church. at 7:30 p.m. Jack E~le will attend. Planning meeting, May 8th, St. Paul's EEA: HERBE~ OSHAN: A letter received from Herbert Oshan, E.E.A. Director, Haverhill Office, pointed cut that phase down of EEA means: 1. Section 6 participants to he terminated with m~nth's notice. Termination date effective June 1, 1973. 2. Participants provided for in Department Budgets to be transferred to Town Payroll .effec'tive July 1, 1973. 3. Remaining participants will stay on EEA payroll until funds are depleted hut 'not after May 31, 1974. HIGH SCHOOL OVERPASS: Chairman Guthrie reported tha~; as a result of unofficial reports that High School overpass wo,,ld not be completed by September, 1973, a letter requesting top priority for the project had been directed by Guthrie to DPW Chief Engineer, R. Tierney. Further, Guthrie will contact Tierney next week to set up a meeting to discuss the problem. Representative Horrell, Senator ~Arak, Councillor Lane will continue to Be kept informed. TOWN FLOOR SPACE: · The Board voted to put a "hold" on the reassignment of floor space in the Town Building. JOINT MEETING: A Joint meeting was held with the Civic Holiday Celebration Committee and the North Andover ~ Historical Commission to discuss the Hi-Centennial Celebration. The twa groups decided to discuss the possibility of a Stearing Committee and will report to the Selectmen at a later date. The Licensing Board approved renewal of license for six fo Ta~ Cab. GAS EXCAVATIONS: The Board approved the following petitions to excavate: (a) Brentwood Circle - installation of gas service. (b) Woodstock Street - , ,, (c) Corner cf Park and Main Streets - to repair gas maine. (d) Highland View Avenue - installation of gas main and gas service. (e) Salem Street, Lot 6 - Installation of gas service. Petition to excavate at 806 Great Pond Road was referred to the Conservation Commission for their recommendation due to their previous involvement with the construction at this site.
