~.,~:. : .The regular meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held on this date with all members
present...Selectman John F. Coady, John P. Kirk with Chairman Joseph A. Guthrie presiding.
The warrant and minutes were approved as submitted. According to summer schedule, next
meeting will be June 25, at 7:00 p.m. Special Town Meeting scheduled same date at 7:30 p.m.
¢~S EXCAVATIONS:
Three petitions were approved by the Board to excavate on Boxford, Sum~er and Sutton Streets
to install 6 and 8 inch steel gas mains.
N. A. BLOOD BANK PROGRAM:
The Board received a~proposal from the American National Red Cross, Lawrence, Mass. re a
program to try to protect citizens of North Andover under one Blood Bank. Jack Erle explained
to the Board that if "3% of the citizens donated blood, all North Andover townspeople would he
Covered, including members of immediate family, parents and grandparents, no matter where
they lived in the United States. Also, organizations, i.e...Masons, Town employees, Church
groups, K of C., etc. will be covered if 2~% of their membership Participated and, if re-
siding in North Andover, blood donation would add to the town quota, also. To qualify, SOO
pints of blood must be collected in a 12-month period (124 'pts. were collected on May 18)
three more visits before next May shou2d produce total goal of SOO pints.
Joseph A. Guthrie has been appointe~ Bonsrary Chairman of the program. Committee will consist of
representatives from organizations, Churches, Clubs, etc., who will contac~ people t~ participate
in t~ town blood bauk program. An organizational meeting will be held on ;une 21, a% 7:30
'P~,N. in the Stevens Memorial Library meeting room.
MEETING: ~
Mitchell Bootman, Gas Inspector, invited the Board to attend the Essex County Board of Trade
luncheon Wednesday, June 13, at the Merrimack Valley Motor Inn. Chairman Guthrie will attend
at 12 noon.
TOWN GAPAGE COMMITTEE:
A communication from. Thomas H. ~mett, 23 Woodstock Road, indicated his wish to be a member
of the Town Garage Study Committee. Chairman Guthrie announced appointments of the committee
would be made at their July 9th Selectmem's meeting.
LICENSING C0~SSIONERS:
A hearing was held on the application for a license to store additional 4000 gallon tank for
storage of gasoline at 12 Mass. Ave. Approved by Chief Daw, Fire Dept, Joseph Guthrie made
motion to approve application wi~h the stipulation the license show total gallons, above-
ground and underground.
ONE_DAY BEER LICENSE:
Application received for a 1-day beer license on August 19 at the Town Forest Picnic Area
from William J. Deyermond ~of Deyermond Associates. Permission also requested to use the
picnic area. The Board withheld a~pproval until Mr. Deyermond sends a letter clarifying two
items: 1) Clarify fund purpose ~money realized may be used only for charitable purposes)
2) Are the Associates going to sell the beer or serve it for refreshments.
COMMON VICTUALER LICENSE:
The B card approved a Cozm~n Victualer license for Stevens Pond Concession Stand in the
name of Narcia Appleton, 274 Hillside Road.
AUTIONEER~ S LICENSE:
Discussed w~s the application' of Milton R. Pollock, Sr., 162 No. Main St., Middleton, Mass.
for a town-wide auctioneer's license in North Andover. Statute states person has to be
resident cf town or have a business in town. Special permit can be obtained for auctioning
off farm machinery or farm animals. As all preparations ~ad been made . by Pollock to
hold an auction on Saturday, June 16, the Board voted to approve the license for one day,
