Selectmen John F. Coady, John P. Kirk with Chairman Joseph A. Guthrie presiding. The
and minutes were approved as submitted.
GASOLI~ & FUEL BIDS:
Bids were opened to award contract for the ensuing year for delivery of gasoline and fuel oil
to the town departments. Two bids were received for #2 Fuel Oil: Glendale Morton Petroleum
Corporation and J. A. Leone & Sons, Inc. J. A. Leone & Sons were awarded the contract. One
bid received for the gasoline delivery, Gulf Oil Company who was awarded the bid.
BROOKS HOCKEY ARENA - STREET LIGI~:
The Board approved r~quest of Brooks School for adequate street lighting at the service en-
trance, off . Great Pond Road, which serves as entrance to new hockey arena and is u~ed
several times a week by the townspeople. The Board voted to request electric company t~ in-
stall an adequate street light at that location. ~.
NIDDLE SCHOOL GROUP,DS:
A letter received from the School Committee requested the Selectmen to withdraw all
granted on the Middle School Grounds. After considerable discussion with students present at
the meeting, the Board stated that, based on their action taken at their October 9th meeting,
they had no alternative but to grant the School Committee's request. School Committeeman,
Atty. Charles Trombly, advised the students and the Board that the School Committee was
scheduled for another meeting and that he would bring the matter up once more for vote.
On November 14, 1973, the Board received a letter advising that the School Committee had
voted to keep the Middle School grounds opened to the youth of the Town for a trial period
of one month (December 13, 1973), with the agreement that (1) No parking whatsoever in the
driveways (al~l parking in the East side parking lot, near Rt. 125).~(2) No drinking of
alcoholic bev~.~,ages... (3) No littering. If any of the above-named conditions were violated,
the Selectmen will be requested to close the grounds forthwith.
The Selectmen were contacted and were in agreement with..the above and voted to reopen the
Middle School grounds. Chief Lawlor was sent a letter to that effect.
DEP~NT HEAD & APP'D COMMITTEE CHAII{MEN:
The above-natured were invited to a meeting on November 29, 1973, at Camelot Hall, 7:30 p.m.
Discussions will be on mutual concerns and intersts,particularly, policy regarding vouchers,
mileage charges, budgets and the relationship between departments.
RECEIVED:
Progress report from Bill McEvoy re Santa Claus Parade, November 24.
Meeting with Planning Board re town ways on November 13, 7:30 p.m. requested by Highway Sur-
veyor. Chairman Guthrie will attend.
Letter from Stevens Memorial Trustees requesting representation on any future Citizens'
Advisory Committee formed re Cable TV.
Copy of letter sent to Senator Rurak re traffic requests~from School Committee.
Letter from Selective Service re youth registration; T own Clerk will be in charge.
Letter from Merrimack Valley Housing Development Corp. re House Bill 6661.
INSURANCE:
Letter from R. C. Lafond requesting that a copy of all accident reports be forwarded to him
for his files and referral when company contacts him on said accidents. The Board voted to
send a letter to all town departments re this request.
Letter from R.C. Lafond requesting a meeting with the Board to discuss better coverage of
town properties, especially the schools which are under-insured, and the multi-peril policy
which is, at the present time, inadequate. The Board voted to send letter to Mr. Lafond
listing Monday, November 26, at 9 p.m. as proposed meeting date.
BERKOVER -TRAFFIC REQUESTS:
The Board received a negative answer from J. Berkover re their traffic safety requests for
the new High School. The letter w~s referred to Chief Lawlor asking his reco~meedation as
to what steps his department can take to insure the safety of the school children in this
area. It was suggested that the police cruiser's lights be kept flashing when being used in
this area.
Letter from J. Berkover re speed reduction request on Dale Street referred to Chief Lawlor
for his action and further recommendations on the matter.
MEMORANDU~ OF AGEE~MENT:
The Selectmen signed a Memorandum of Agreement (in duplicate) re improvement of town roads
under Chapter 90. Agreement sent to J. Berkover.
CEF~IFICATE OF INCORPORATION:
An affirmative reco~m~endation received from Chief Lawlor on Ayako Ora, member of Temple
Place Condominium Association, Inc. Sent to Dept. of Corporation and 'Taxation.
BOARD OF TRADE:
Letter of complaint on unsightly site of the Sweeney Hurricane Fences, 150 Sutton St. re-
ceived from the Board of Trade. The Selectmen authorized Chairman Guthrie to find out what
Jurisdiction town has in this area...to report next meeting, November 19.
