Judy,
This looks fine. I had thought he was going to look into doing something different with the trench (e.g. a swale), but it
really is personal preference. He is calling for the owners to maintain the trench, and has addressed the pool
maintenance issue. I have no further comments.

Judy,
Attached is a revised plan for the above swimming pool project. I believe the plan incorporates all of Lisa's
comments. We have also added an equipment pad with infiltration trench. We added the generator
proposed for the front of the house as well.
1
Also attached are revised infiltration calculations due to the equipment pad and a pool maintenance plan. I
did not have Lisa's email address. Could you please forward the package to her for her approval?
Thank you.

Thanks Jack.
Yes,the next Planning Board meeting is on Nov. 20. 1 will have a decision ready for that meeting so I would
need to see the plan a few days ahead so that I can reference it in the decision. Also, send a copy to Lisa so
that she can give her final OK.

Hi Judy,
We are in the process of revising the plan. I spoke with Lisa Eggleston and the homeowner. We
are revising the trench to remove the filter fabric. We are adding the generator and the swimming
pool equipment pad to the plan. We are also preparing a maintenance plan for the pool. I hope to
get these to you in next few days. Is the next Planning Board meeting scheduled for 11/20?

Maureen.Jack,
There was a plumber here in the office applying for a permit for a generator at 171 Brentwood. I was
not here, but my admin told me that he is going to locate it in the front of the house, which is fine.
Can you include the pad on your plan? thanks

RE: Watershed Special Permit Review
171 Brentwood Circle
Dear Ms.Tymon and Board Members:
Per your request, I have conducted a technical review of the September 26, 2012
Watershed Special Permit Application packet for the above-referenced project, prepared
by Norse Environmental Services Inc. and JM Associates on behalf of Rose P. Sandoval.
The proposed project entails the construction of an inground swimming pool with
waterfall, pool deck, fence, and associated grading and utilities on an existing single
family house lot. A portion of the proposed project is within the Non-Disturbance Zone
of the Watershed District since it is within 100 It of a wetland resource area within the
watershed, and the remainder is within the 325-ft Non-Discharge Zone. The lot was
created prior to October 24, 1994.
My comments on the application are outlined below:
1. The Site Plan should clearly identify the Watershed Protection zones and the limit
of work in accordance with the Special Permit requirements.
2. The proposed infiltration trench is adequate to handle runoff from the pool deck,
however I recommend against the placement of filter fabric between stone layers
and on the bottom of the trench as it will clog over time and lead to system
failure. A layer of sand or bank a•un gravel can provide the same firnction. Long
term maintenance of the trench should also be addressed.
3. Additional information is needed on the proposed landscaping for the project area,
including how the infiltration trench will be incorporated into the landscape.
Consideration should be given to naturalizing the trench to create more of a
bioswale, as deep rooted vegetation will also enhance the infiltration capacity. I
recommend that the creation of new lawn area on the site be limited to that which
is absolutely necessary, and that any new landscape area be constructed in such a
manner as to minimize the maintenance that is required, e.g. the soil should be
well aerated, it should have a minimum of 6-inches of topsoil and, where possible,
native vegetation should be planted to minimize the need for fertilizer and
watering.

4. As with similar projects permitted within the Watershed Protection District, both
the limits of approved clearing and the restriction on lawn care products should be
permanently recorded on the deed to the property.
5. Best Management Practices to protect the watershed from contamination with
swimming pool chemicals used on the property should also be identified and
employed. Such measures would include proper dechlorination and discharge of
pool water when it is drained for maintenance, storage of chemicals, spill
prevention and the like.
I appreciate the opportunity to assist the North Andover Planning Board with the review
of this project, and hope that this information is suitable for your needs. Please feel fi•ee
to contact me if you or the applicants have any questions regarding the issues addressed
herein.
Sincerely,
EGGLESTON ENVIRONMENTAL
