LAIFRENCE, MASS.: PI{INTFI) AT I.A1¥RI~NCE SENTINEL i) FFICE 1870. . ~x' THE AUDITORS' REPORT TOWN OF NORTH ANDOVER, YEAR ENDING FEB. 18, 1870. 1870. AUDITORS' REPORT. The Auditors chosen to audit the accounts of the Selectmen~ Overseers of the Poor~ and Town Treasurer of the town of North Andover have examined the same fqr the year ending ~'eb. 18~ 1870, and report that they find the said accounts all correctly cast and vouched for~ representing fully the financial condition of the town, which, considering the heavy extra ex- penses involved in building the new road to Boxford, and in as- suming the control and ownership of the school house property in the town: is certainly very flattering. The Treasurer's account foots up to a good round sum in consequence of' changing all the old town notes, and also the notes against the Merrimac school district to new town notes, yrhich certainly seems to us to be the best plan: as many of~ the old notes were of small amounts and of various dates, running all through the year~ making it inconvenient for the Treasurer, as he was obliged to be prepared to meet the interest on some o~ie of them almost every day. The town now owes but seven notes~ and the interest is aH paid to Oct. 1, 1869. The Auditors were particularly struck with ';he neat and tidy appearance of the alms-house .and its inmates, Certain- ly the matron: Mrs. Sargent, is deserving great credit for this. There are always in such places many unavoidable things that are not plc~sant~ but really the inmates of our Mr0s-house ap- pear to be contented and happy as possible.
