Sawyer, Susan From: Sawyer, Susan Sent: Monday, September 22, 2014 9:36 AM To: McCarthy,Amy Cc: Deems, Maura; Brown, Gerald Subject: RE: chickens - 70 Thistle Amy, from your drive by previously, can you confirm whether or not this meets the requirements of section 4.122 (6) e, of the zoning bylaw. (see below) I copied building on this because in addition to you and me,the complainant contacted them as well. I understand that they are ok with your standards, but their question is whether or not they are in violation of the zoning bylaw. I contacted building but no one got back to me.The 70 Thistle does have a coop at the top of the drive in the backyard. It is visible from street when cars are not there. I have never seen the chickens out, but believe it's ok if they get some exercise out of the coop. They just can't be left out all the time. As far as I'm concerned I believe they are within the law...not that there are any fines or consequences I am aware of. This is the first complaint, I've received. I did advise the caller that I thought they chicken owner was within the guidelines. FYI the complainant is trying to sell her house From: Sawyer, Susan Sent: Friday, September 19, 2014 10:41 AM To: Blackburn, Lisa; McCarthy, Amy Cc: Deems, Maura Subject: chickens Hi Amy, I received a complaint regarding chickens on Thistle. Caller did not have a house number. She wants the complaint to be anonymous;though she did say her name was Marie and I have her phone number from the phone id. She stated the chickens are free range that she knows is a violation to the bylaw. She had an issue of the location of the coop on the front lawn as well and believes that violates the town bylaw as well. She wants this issue addressed by the town. Amy,to be honest, I don't know who is the enforcer of this new chicken ordinance. Have you been responding to complaints? I copied building on this because the caller said she was going to call both of you. I told her I could pass it on for her; so I hope you don't both still get calls. What can we do about this?
