Re: Engineer Statement for Brown Residence, 35 Old Farm Road.,N. Andover,MA for Solar Roof Installation I have verified the adequacy and structural integrity of the existing roof rafters of Main House and Garage for mounting of 35 solar panels and their installation will satisfy the structural roof framing design-loading requirements of the Massachusetts building code— 780 CMR Residential Code 8th Ed. For the installation of the solar mounting, the mounting rails will be anchored to the rafters with Hyundai modules with Quickmount QMSC flashings on the center of the rafters and will be securely fastened to the rafters with lag screws. The design is based on the added weight of the collectors, wind speed of 100 mph, exposure B and ground snow load of 50 psf. The Photovoltaic system and the mounting assemblies will comply with the applicable sections of the Residential Code and loading requirements of roof-mounted collectors. Thereby, I endorse the solar panel installation and certify this design to be structurally adequate. Sincerely, OF mASSpC James A. Marx,Jr.P.E. An ungrounded array, when coupled with sophlsticatad features of the Enphase Mlcrolnverters with National Electric Code grounding definitions: Integrated Ground, offers greater safety for the Installer, system owner, and malmenance personnel. In addition to enhancing safety, the Integrated ground technology streamlines, simplifies, and economizes The Grounding Electrode System:Described more fully In NEC Article 250 Part III,the the Installation process for Installers and Inspectors of all projecttypes. grounding electrode system provides a network of conductors, bus bars and bonding within a facility through which a direct connection to earth is established. The grounding electrode system This document clarifies solar grounding terminology and describes NEC(National Electrical Code) is comprised of the equipmentground conductor, the grounded conductor, the grounding compliant grounding methods for Enphase®Microlnverters with Integrated(DC Isolated)ground. The electrode conductor, and the grounding electrode. 2008,2011 and 2014 editions of the NEC allow for ungrounded PV arrays based on the provisions specified In NEC article 690.35. Grounding Electrode:Is a conducting object through which a direct connection to earth is established perthe requirement outlined in NEC 250.52.Typical examples of a grounding electrode are a ground rod, burled metal pipe, plate electrode, concrete encased ground(UFER), and/or a ground ring. P23tt1 res Equipment Grounding Conductor(EGG):Provides a conductive path to connect normally non- integrated ground eliminates the need for a GEC:Enphase Mlcrolnverters with Integrated current-carrying metal parts of equipment together,E GCs are also found In traditional household Ground isolate the DC conductors from ground,This has the slgnhlmnt advantage of eliminating wiring and connected to the rounded contact In a three-hole,grounded wall socket. The Er,Is the need for a GEC connection between microlnverters. also used In the PV industry to connect all exposed metal parts such as PV module frame, racking structure, wiring enclosure(combiner and junction bones),and the mlcrolnverter chassis. Ground fault detection on board:Enphase Mlcrolnverters with Integrated Ground offer With Enphase Mlcrolnverters with Integrated Ground, the Ec.c Is supplied through the Engage advanced features to detect DC ground faults on either DC post lve or negative conductors and Cable system. always check the Insulation resistance before exporting power. This ellminates the hidden ground faults that often go undetected with less mature microlnverter technologies. Grounded Conductor:The NEC defines the grounded conductor as a current-carrying Smart disconnects:As on all Enphase Mlcroinverters, the AC and DC connectors are rated and conductor that Is Intentionally grounded.Examples are the Neutral conductorfound In an AC listed as disconnect devlcoa under load per the NEC requirements. This simplifies design and system ora grounded DC conductor found in many PV systems. The point at which the current- eliminates the need for redundant and hard-to-tocate disconnect devices. carrying conductor is connected to ground must be connected to the grounding electrode with a GEC. Ruggedized DC wiring:Each Enphase Mlcroinverter with Integrated Ground Is built with PV (Photovoltaic)Wire for all DC conductors. This provides double Insulation for protection against Grounding Electrode Conductor(GEC):The purpose of the GEC Is to provide a conductive wire damage and meets all wlring requirements of NEC 690.35.The PV module must also use path to connect the common grounding point of the power system(AC or PV power systems)to PV Wire. the grounding electrode or to a grounding electrode system.AC or PV power system grounding Is established when a current-carrying conductor Is Intentionally connected to ground by a GEC, 2 .-......m..=._..............a»...o 2014 Enphese Enerte Inc.A11 right,rs,srved, J—ey,2014 1 o 2014 Enphase Energy Mc.Al rights mmne1 January 2014 Enphase Microlnverters&Ungrounded PV Arrays Enphase Mlcrolnverters&Ungrounded PV Arrays Fully integrated Microinverter System Ground Building Arrays with Grounding in Mind Like the Enphase M190 and the prevlous-generation M215,the Enphase Mlcrolnverters with Integrated Many methods are available for Installing PV systems that enable a variety of approaches both to system Ground are utility-Interactive mlcrolrlverters. All Enphase Mlcrolnverters use transformer coupling to design and to system grounding. We discuss two common methods and place emphasis on specific Isolate the DC and AC circuits,The major difference between the grounded and integrated ground grounding requirements. models Iles within the DC Input stage of the mlcroinverter, where DC powerfrom the module enters the Wire EGO The PV modules are mounted to the racking platform with mechanical clamps and microinverter.Enphase Mlcrolnverters with Integrated Ground do not ground the DC Input,as did their predecessors.By Isolating the DC conductors from ground,Enphase Mlcrolnverters with integrated clips,As per NEC 690.43,all exposed metal must be grounded,An 1--Gr provides a conductive Ground enable the Installer to create an NEC-compliant Ungrounded PV Power System(690.35,690,41), path forthe racking and PV module frames. The EGO Is connected to each PV module frame and all racking members. The EGC tram the array can be connected to the AC EGO that then With the Enphase Mlcrolnverters with Integrated Ground, the grounding requirement is satisfied with an connects to the AC ground system.
