Vanasse Hangin Brustlin, Inc. 101 Walnut Street, P.O. Box 9151 Watertown,MA 02471-9151 ATTN: Tim McIntosh Mr. McIntosh, Enclosed please find for your review copies of a site plan entitled"Special Permit Site Plan" - revised 12-10-03 for work proposed on Lot 3 (980) Saile Way in North Andover, MA. This Special Permit Site Plan will accompany an application for a Watershed Special Permit for the above referenced property. The applicant is proposing to construct a pool, and associated appurtenances, within the Town of North Andover Non-Disturbance Zone (which extends 250 feet from the high water mark for Lake Cochichewick). Although, the proposed"Temporary Limit of Work Area" as depicted on the plan is inside the Non-Disturbance Zone, this area is to be re-vegetated up to the limits of the proposed pool and raised overlooks, once the pool installation is complete. These changes will not adversely affect surface drainage from the site. The filtration system being proposed for the pool is a non-backwash type cartridge system. The pool water sanitation system is a chemically free design that treats pool water with a dual purification system using ionization and ozonation. These systems will eliminate backwash from entering the surrounding area and will eliminate the need to store potentially harmful and unstable chemicals on the property. This proposed construction is unique in design, looks, and function. Special methods and procedures must be employed to prevent erosion during the construction process and to prevent sediment from migrating beyond the proposed temporary limit of work. If installed and maintained properly, there should not be any degradation of the quality or quantity of water in or entering Lake Cochichewick as a result of this project.. Sincerely, F` qp Dennis G. The pool, deck and o erlook area is about 3,265 square feet. Z a$sume all stormwater runoff I k drains toward and int the pool. The house and garage footprint'is about 5,400 squ re feet, 1 ( i assuute all i oofiutto is collected and directed tu a subsurface infiltration systern. I i I 2. Storage required for o to inch of stormwater runoff to infiltrate into the groundwate from tho P house and garage is 4 0 cubic feet. I t 3. You state that 28 Cultic Contactor 18014D Reeharger Units were installed with stot a arciund g I each unit extending to a depth of 6 inches under each unit for stgrm water infiltration, i. 4. Each Cultec unit is 6. 5 feet(75 inches)long for an overall Iengih of 175 feet. The.Design manual states that the a are 4,65 cubic feet of void storage per linear feet of units, ' herefore, 175 x 4.65 is 813 Gub'c feet of storage. ! ! 5. From these statemen ,it is clear that 28 Cultec 18OHD Units will be at S5 %capacity for one z inell of runoff collected from the roof of the house and garage. I ' 6. Before development o I the site the area was wooded. At best, the USDA Soi i Con.ervatlon ! Service estimates 70%infiltration of stormwater irwxoff to groundwater. 3 j 7, The house, garage,po 1, deck and overlook total about 8,665 sgoare feet. One inch of nlnutT i about 722 cubic Feet and 70% of that is 505 cubic feet that would have infiltrated i to tt e I d ground. E i 8. The percentage of gro ndwater recharge is 450 of/505 of L 84 percent. 4 I If you have any questions reg ding these statements, please call. I Sincerely, bcnnis C. You recommended the leach trench detail should show the location of the perforated pipe however the original design did not propose a pipe just a trench. Were you recommended they add one or did you just assume one was included but not shown on the detail. Again, my understanding is the original design was reviewed and approved. Let me know. Thanks.
