I East River Place Methuen, MA 01844 Introduction/Proiect Description The proposed project involves the construction of a single family dwelling with appurtenant driveway, lot grading and utilities on an existing 47,647± square foot parcel near the end of Campion Road. Portions of the work are within an isolated wetland and its 100 foot buffer zone. The lot is within the Watershed Protection District of Lake Cochichewick. Three vegetated rain garden areas are proposed to compensate for the filling of the wetland area. Soils on the lot were mapped by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) as Sutton fine sandy loam(map unit 410C). The Sutton soil is assigned to Hydrologic Soil Group B (HSG B) and is a soil with a moderate infiltration rate when thoroughly wetted. Test pits were conducted in the proposed rain garden areas. The testing done by others within the wetland area and two test pits, in rain garden B and C areas, done by this firm confirms that portions of the lot were used as a staging area for the development of the surrounding subdivision. Surface runoff from the lot discharges in a general southwesterly direction in the existing and developed conditions. A time of concentration of 5 minutes was assumed. The void volume within the rain garden soil/mulch bed (20%, typical) was conservatively ignored and a Rawls rate 0.27 inches per hour assumed for the infiltration rate at this location. The developed area tributary to rain garden B consists of a 7,022 square foot area consisting of proposed lawn and paved areas. A time of concentration of 5 minutes was assumed. The void volume within the rain garden soil/mulch bed (20%, typical) was conservatively ignored and a Rawls rate 0.27 inches per hour assumed for the infiltration rate at this location. The developed area tributary to rain garden A consists of a 34,302 square foot area consisting of lawn and paved areas. Since the impervious area is less than 30%, an unconnected, composite CN = 64 was used based upon the watershed at 19% impervious and 100% of it unconnected (See Figure 2-4 in TR-55). All of the tributary pervious area was conservatively considered to be grassed. The time of concentration was calculated using the HydroCAD model for sheet flow (50 feet max.) and shallow concentrated flow. The void volume within the rain garden soil/mulch bed (20%, typical) was conservatively ignored and a Rawls rate 0.52 inches per hour assumed for the native Sutton Soil (sandy loam) at this location. The remaining developed area consists of a 2,895 square foot area, down hill from rain garden A, consisting of lawn on the downhill slope of the rain garden and the un-disturbed areas behind the proposed hay bale barrier. A time of concentration of 5 minutes was assumed.
